Senior Accountant JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

We’re looking for an intermediate level experienced individual who will serve as a primary contact for accounting transactions within CLG Transportation and Capital Logistics Group and who can assist with the daily accounting operations, month-end closing, and yearly closing processes.

With the responsibility of direct reports, this position requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills. This individual will report directly to the Managing Partners and work closely with our Operations teams.

The role includes but is not limited to the following accountability and essential duties and responsibilities:

Perform monthly closing processes and produce timely financial statements.

Perform general ledger maintenance and enter complex journal entries such as allocation entries, accruals, deferred revenue, prepaid amortizations, intercompany transactions, etc.

Perform daily check runs.

Monthly Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.

Maintain proper record keeping of financial records.

Oversee data migration across our financial systems.

Prepare financial analyses and reports.

Oversee weekly and semi-monthly payroll and troubleshoot driver payroll inquiries as necessary.

Prepare and present accurate commission reports for employees and send monthly report to counterparts, as requested.

Lead, develop, motivate, and evaluate accounting staff positions while overseeing the billing of customers, collection processes, and carrier/customer communications to maintain a high level of employee commitment and competence.

Assist accounting staff with resolution of any issues with customer accounts.

Assist with year-end tax preparation processes and provide necessary reports to outside accounting entity.

Compile 1099 payment records and collect W9 from non-carrier vendors.

Submit monthly reports to banking entity to satisfy borrowing base requirements on line of credit when applicable.

Maintain cash flow levels by monitoring outflows and ensuring billing and collections remain at necessary levels.

Maintain contact with Carriers to secure paperwork on older loads.

Maintain and record Credit Card Activity transaction records.

Run periodic aging reports, initiate needed changes, and review for escalation matters.

Create standard operating procedures and update as necessary to contribute to accounting policy making for the organization.

Remain knowledgeable with current regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations and handle IRS inquiries and levy notices as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Professional certifications such as CMA, CPA or CPB are preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience in the logistics and transportation industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and experience working with financial statements and budgeting processes.

Proficient in using accounting software. Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) is a plus.

Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends, perform variance analysis, and provide financial insights to drive business performance.
