The Marketing Intern position is designed for an individual who desires to learn hands-on real world marketing strategies and initiatives. This opportunity provides practical training and will be involved with all aspects of the Western States Marketing Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safety

  • Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
  • Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
Creative Contribution, Graphics, and Marketing Campaign Execution
  • Contributes new concepts, suggestions, and thoughts to the Marketing Department.
  • Assists in assembling marketing materials to be distributed internally and externally.
  • Provides and/or develops graphics for internal and external company presentations.
  • Assists with social media and web strategy planning, execution, and tracking.
  • Assists with determining the most effective ways to communicate campaign launches, execution, and recaps.
  • Performs duties to support the marketing team to accomplish current and future campaigns and initiatives.
  • Assists with marketing digital photography and video. Utilizes You-Tube and other media venues.
  • Aids in designing basic marketing and promotional pieces to industry standards and Caterpillar standards.
  • Analyzes customer and competitor trends and helps identify new ways to effectively market to demographics.
  • Completes projects at the direction of the VP of Marketing, or other designated managers.
Marketing Collateral
  • Assists with the development of marketing and promotional pieces, consisting of direct mail, print ads, magazine ads, posters, flyers, handouts, and more. Understands color use, fonts, layout strategy, etc.
  • Adheres to all customer care standards.
  • Actively cares and advocates safety at Western States. Adhere to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • May accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States' strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Works within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Basic knowledge of graphics and layout.
  • Must have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic Knowledge of digital photography and its application in graphics.
  • Ability to utilize email, USB flash drives, ftp sites and other technology to meet goals.
  • Should be organized, professional, energetic, able to multi-task and detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of or ability to learn Photoshop, Illustrator CS, Acrobat, InDesign CS2, TIFF and EPS use, and PDF.
  • Must have a strong desire to learn new Marketing concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in a Marketing related field with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Some exposure to extreme temperatures and some exposure to high noise levels.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs in accordance with Western States' Lifting Safe Work Practice to include amount and approach.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
