Student Support Services (SSS) at WKU is a TRIO Program funded by the US Department of Education. SSS provides support for college students to promote good academic standing, persistence and graduation. SSS provides opportunities and services to help participants succeed in their postsecondary performance. This position requires focus on low income, first generation and students with disabilities. This position will work with a group of students; the caseload may be as large as 125 students. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provides academic, personal, financial, and career advisement/counseling to approximately 125 students Oversees the program's tutorial component Works to implement student campus involvement Leads student outreach initiatives Assists the director with other program activities Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with attention to customer service Strong work ethic under minimal supervision Demonstrated ability to use social media Ability to learn TopNet, DegreeWorks, TutorTrac, Banner, other support software Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products Willingness to become familiar with TRIO regulations that govern program policies Demonstrated ability to recruit students at academic fair/expo type events Demonstrated ability to initiate, implement, and coordinate projects Ability to learn WKU academic Advising and Admission policies Willingness to learn WKU student orientation policies and procedures Willingness to attend professional development workshops (overnight travel may be required) Willingness to become familiar with strategies and technology necessary to manage the program peer advising component Job Requirements: Master's degree in counseling, education, student affairs, or a related field Possess a valid driver's license Computer skills Demonstrate effective presentation and communication skills Ability to physically lift 30 pounds
