About the Position

Energy Exemplar is seeking a skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including managing the month-end close process, supporting financial statement audits, calculating commissions and assisting with the order-to-cash process and review. This role requires a detailed-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices.

Key Stakeholder Relationships

This position works closely and collaboratively with all Energy Exemplar staff but in particular:
  • Assistant Controller
  • Senior Accountant(s)
Key Accountabilities and Duties
  • Month-End Close Coordination:
    • Manage and coordinate the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
    • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
    • Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
    • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance the efficiency of the month-end close process.
  • Financial Statement Audit Support:
    • Act as a primary point of contact for external auditors during financial statement audits.
    • Prepare and provide necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
    • Address audit inquiries and resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  • Commissions:
    • Oversee the calculation of commissions for the sales and solutions teams based on established plans and performance metrics.
    • Prepare and distribute commission statements to the sales and solutions team members.
  • Order-to-cash Process and Review:
    • Review Salesforce opportunities for accuracy against signed agreements, including the identification and documentation of non-standard contract terms.
    • Coordinate with members of the Sales and Customer Success teams to ensure accuracy of Salesforce information.
Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience (6+ years) in accounting functions, a mix of public and industry accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP with a strong understanding of its practical application in diverse regulatory environments.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams across different geographical locations, time zones, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement and implementing best practices to optimize accounting operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems; experience with NetSuite is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
