Summary

Principal Engineer is a specialized, master, industry related, or expert level working on highly complex assignments which involves authority over assigned programs and mentoring others.Responsible for assisting other Project Engineers and completing tasks as assigned by the Manager and upper-level management. Principal Engineer will have primary responsibility to serve as a teacher and mentor to increase, improve and preserve engineering knowledge and expertise. This will include special projects and tasks as developed with management approval or assignment.Coordinate with Vice President of Engineering to establish and implement company-wide engineering standards, specifications and procedures.

Some of the work you will do:

  • Takes the lead on engineering standards, specification and procedure development, including regular reporting status to leadership
  • Supports and mentors engineers pursuing professional licensure
  • Responsible for and/or coordinates the development of engineering tools for modeling and sizing, engineering estimating, engineering proposal generation, specs and drawings for sales, product design calcs/models
  • Reviews and stamps structural, hydraulic, process, etc. calculations and drawings
  • Responsible for the methods to capture the engineering/design knowledge (design process)
  • Focused on technical leadership, defining patterns and operational guidelines for the team
  • Independently designs and delivers solutions for large, complex challenges
  • Successfully plans and delivers complex, multi-team or system, long-term projects, including those with external dependencies
  • Owns one or more large, mission critical systems or multiple complex, team level projects overseeing all aspects from design through implementation through operation
  • Thought leader for technical decisions, influencing adoption of best practices
  • Trusted to de-escalate conflicts and build consensus between team members about technical matters
  • Familiarity of applicable building/construction codes and industry standards to support engineering deliverables and ensure adherence to the same
  • Participates in relevant project meetings, site walkdowns, document/design reviews; support the project team in preparation of clarifications, change management and incorporation of internal and external review comments throughout a project
  • Supports coordination with external engineering resources (sub-consultants) and helps define scope of work for large-scale projects
  • Occasional project related travel
Here are the skills that you need:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in the following disciplines:
    • Civil/Structural Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Automation/Robotic Technology or similar
  • PE License required
  • Experience: At least 15 years or more of related experience
  • Strong math skills, specifically trigonometry and geometry, understanding of chemistry and physics
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and other Windows applications
  • Detail oriented, well organized
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated with detailed and complete follow-through
