As part of a diverse and hardworking team of technicians, you will assist with the setup of the production work areas, including layouts, tooling, and equipment setup for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the transition from development to production. You will manufacture, assemble, and test structural flight hardware assemblies according to written procedures and engineering models, drawings, and specifications. You will be responsible for operating various material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, flight vehicle and subassembly transportation equipment, truck-trailer combinations, and other ground support equipment as required. Set up and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools including, but not limited to, torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser trackers, height gauges, and optical measuring instruments. You will perform second-party verifications and hardware inspections of engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required Responsibilities: Perform Composite and metallic machining utilizing automated and manual machining equipment Hands-on editing of NC programs, set up and machining of 3, 4 and 5 axis mills, multi-axis lathes, autoclave ovens, and development of critical machining processes Operate or support large specialized equipment such as multi-axis mills, lathes to process flight hardware Composite and metallic trimming/routing/drilling/tapping/machining programming experience Creation of Cam programs from drawings and blueprints Ability to determine appropriate feeds/speeds, cutters, approaches, and tool paths Ability to plan, design, fabricate and assembly tooling/fixture necessary for machining Manage tooling and cutter needs and inventory Operate or support crane lifts, scissor and boom lifts and forklifts Adheres to equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in the fabrication of parts using materials such as epoxy prepregs, adhesives, cores, machined fittings, and consumable materials. Understands, follows, and completes work instructions, and contributes to safety, quality, process, and work instruction continuous improvement Utilize manual, electric & pneumatic tools to fabricate and/or maintain composite structures, molds, handling fixtures, and tooling. Check completed products for conformance to specifications and defects Qualifications: Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space High School diploma or GED Minimum of 8 years' experience in aerospace machining. Expertise in one or more of the following CNC machines: Mazak, Hass, Kuraki and/or DMG Mori Working knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol or other CNC controls Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse teams in a dynamic environment displaying a strong work ethic with close attention to detail Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc. Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to climb ladders/stairs and work in small restricted areas Perform repetitive work including lifting of heavy items, >50lbs Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: Tooling and fixture design. CMM programming/operation experience CAD experience in one of various CAD platforms CNC programming skills, preferably Mastercam Conversational programming on the machine A Strong desire to understand, and continuously improve production processes Understanding of equipment maintenance and diagnostic principles and failure root cause and corrective action (RCCA) 5S and Lean Experience beneficial. Previous or currently ordinance handler certified Rigging and Crane operator certification Proven success as a "hands-on" technical leader Industry certification, trade school training, and/or degree in a related field Experience in handling/moving aerospace components Experience working on composite ceramics, carbon-carbons, or Composite TPS systems
