Advocates for laws, regulations, and policies at the local, state, and national levels to strengthen civil and workplace rights.

The Position The Temporary Intake Specialist will report to the VP of Programs and Litigation and will assist in managing LAAW’s intake and referral system. This person will answer incoming calls and emails, conduct callbacks and intakes, collect pertinent information about caller/client employment law matters, route clients to the appropriate team, schedule clinic appointments, share LAAW guides, sample letters and educational materials, and refer clients to outside organizations for additional expertise. The Temporary Intake Specialist will work closely across Program teams to ensure clarity and alignment around intake criteria.

This position will require the Temporary Intake Specialist to be client-centered, conduct intakes in a high-volume, responsive, and detail-oriented manner, with strong follow-up and follow-through to document all relevant information consistently and accurately in LAAW’s case management system. Furthermore, this person will ensure clients receive proper callbacks to obtain additional information and/or provide necessary legal information under attorney supervision. The Temporary Intake Specialist must be professional, courteous, and knowledgeable about LAAW, the services provided, and how to conduct timely, thorough intakes.

Requirements The following list of core competencies and experiences is provided to share insight into the requirements of the role and the general level of experience sought in candidates. Legal Aid at Work maintains an office in San Francisco, but candidates may be based anywhere in California. Strong preference given to applicants with personal or professional experience working with impacted communities.

This is a temporary 18-month non-exempt position (LAAW operates on a 35-hour work week).

Minimum of 3 years of relevant office and administrative experience;

Proficiency in and comfort with databases and/or CRM systems (such as Salesforce or similar platforms that handle client data);

Demonstrated success in data management and hygiene; experience with database reporting a plus;

Excellent communication and client-service skills with the ability to handle a heavy call volume with tact and empathy;

High level of professionalism with the ability to manage sensitive, personally identifiable information/materials and maintain confidentiality at all times;

Strong organizational and administrative skills in a fast-paced environment; proactive and efficient work style;

Able to work independently, cooperatively, and courteously with the public, attorneys, law students, and community volunteers;

Able to remain calm under pressure;

Demonstrated commitment to social justice and civil rights work and passion for Legal Aid at Work’s mission of seeking justice for low-wage workers;

Compensation Legal Aid at Work offers competitive salaries in the Bay Area public interest law community. Benefits include health plans, long-term disability and life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with employer match and contribution, and generous paid vacation and holidays. This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by ESC Local 20. Salary placement at hire and advancement will be in accordance with the negotiated salary scale in the union contract for this position. Current salary range for Specialists is $76,500 to $100,300, depending on years of relevant experience.
