This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Operations Director, this position is responsible for planning and organizing all youth and family programming, membership and marketing, hiring and training new staff, training branch staff, fiscal management; and member satisfaction. Will develop, organize, and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic and youth and family programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  2. Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  4. Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  5. Coordinate special events and activities related to member engagement and youth and family, as well as ensure member challenge programs are fully implemented and subscribed to throughout the membership community.
  6. Coordinate family nights, special events birthday parties, summer enrichment camps, and activities for our youth, families, and community.
  7. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  8. Write draft of program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with membership and marketing and youth and family plans and work with the Association Marketing team to produce and distribute the information.
  9. Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances. Participate in annual Y Partners campaign.
  10. Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.
  11. Provide program data and reports in support of planning processes and grant reporting requirements.
  12. Follow established marketing, brand and graphics standards.
  13. Meet or exceed membership revenue and marketing goals and participate as a member of the association's Member Engagement Cabinet.
  14. Maintain accurate inventory all equipment related to membership and youth and family operations.
  15. Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff and follow accident report procedures and policies.
  16. Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  2. One to three years of recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.
  3. Must understand the basic concepts of a voluntary, non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the YMCA mission.
  4. Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules is required.
  5. Must have a current certification in: YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Oxygen Administration; YMCA Swim Instructor certification is preferred.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications.
  8. Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license, as well as the capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Work is performed in a fast-paced office, and indoor/outdoor aquatic environments. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.
  2. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise aquatics activities.
  3. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
  4. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  5. Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative to work within deadlines.
  6. Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
  7. Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils.
