General Description:

The Director of Distribution is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Director of Distribution does this by providing leadership and direction for activities at Syracuse Cold Storage and Dry Storage Warehouse. The Director of Distribution also ensures safety, maintains high-quality standards, and achieves KPI targets within approved operational budgets in the support of Byrne customer service. The Director of Distribution completes these functions in support of the manufacture of dairy related products.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement long-term operational strategies within approved operational budgets aligned with corporate goals in Safety, Quality, Labor Relations, OTIF On Time in Full, Customer Service and Costs.
  2. Provide vision and direction to leadership teams SCS and DSW Business Units to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and foster a unified approach.
  3. Ensure optimal resource allocation, including workforce, equipment, and materials, to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. Working to maximize capacity and coordinating external 3PL as needed.
  4. Drive the implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to streamline operations and enhance productivity. Ensure KPI reporting is fully encompassing, and timely to monitor the trends and allow for action proactively.
  5. Lead the development of annual budgets, including capital expenditure/equipment planning and operational forecasting by monitoring financial performance and analyzing variances.
  6. Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies to improve the bottom line.
  7. Develop and maintain quality assurance programs to ensure product/service quality meets or exceeds industry standards and customer expectations.
  8. Implement performance management systems to evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and identify development opportunities.
  9. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging employees to stay updated on industry trends and advancements.
  10. Stay abreast of new technologies and advancements in the industry through trade magazines, training classes, and technical manuals.
  11. Drive the adoption and integration of innovative technologies and processes to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness. Using RCAs on situations as dictated to drive Continuous Improvements.
  12. Develop and implement safety programs and procedures to exceed company goals on both leading and lagging indicators.
  13. Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility among employees at all levels. Driving RCA to eliminate repetitive issues in a timely manner.
  14. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to understand customer needs and develop strategies to meet those needs.
  15. Support and foster continuous improvement initiatives in safety, productivity and quality.
  16. Utilize data-driven approaches to identify areas for improvement and implement process enhancements.
  17. Lead and oversee capital projects, including expanding distribution sites/system as well as Logistics/Transportation areas.
  18. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  19. Use performance data to drive decision-making and strategic planning to highlight successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.
  20. Responsible for achieving assigned goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
  21. Notifies others of mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and equipment capabilities and begins to identify areas where operators can assist in resolving concerns.
  22. Responsible for complying with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
  23. Works in a safe manner and reports safety concerns promptly to management and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
  24. Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action and for supporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
  25. Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adheres to sanitation practices.
  26. Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments.
Essential Knowledge, Skills:
  1. Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects and initiatives based on business needs.
  2. Budgeting and planning experience.
  3. Effective communication and follow-up skills with a deep drive for continuous improvement.
  4. Proven experience in building and leading highly engaged functional teams.
  5. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and MRP/ERP systems.
  6. Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and knowledge of weights and measure, to sufficiently oversee job tasks.
  7. Understand and respond appropriately to basic to complex employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
  8. Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need).
  9. Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving each of them.
  10. Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area.
  11. Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  12. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.
Education/Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Experience in Distribution Center Operations.
  3. Multi-site responsibility is preferred.
  4. Experience with ERP/WMS Systems and/or DOT Regulations.
  5. Operations management experience in a 24/7 operation.
Performance Standards:
  1. Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned management prior to the occurrence.
  2. Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work.
  3. Responsible for being well-groomed and always dressed in a business-and position-appropriate attire including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  4. Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  5. Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  6. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Schedule:
  1. Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift.
  2. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by Supervisor/Manager.
  3. Salaried: Generally scheduled for 40-45 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.
Environmental Concerns:
  1. Normally protected from weather and temperature changes, possible exposure to hot cold wet, humid, or windy weather conditions does exist.
  2. May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens.
  3. May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.
Physical Job Requirements:
  1. Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
  2. Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  3. Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  4. Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  5. Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $107,500.00 to $138,000.00.
