Job Title: Electrical Systems Design Engineer / Construction Salary: $131-156K Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA Prefer local candidates that can work onsite Open to Hybrid and/or remote if no local candidates ABOUT THE ROLE: The Electrical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the electrical system level design and analysis of substation interconnect facilities, solar & BESS energy facilities, along with review and revision of commercial and utility plan sets for photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Storage (BESS) system installations and site survey sketches. The individual will work closely with EOR’s, customers, and other engineering and design team members and contractors to coordinate the overall design packages and requirements and help transition the designs to the field where they will ensure the successful construction and energization of the project. Essential Functions: Technical responsibility for organizing, reviewing, interpreting, researching, executing, coordination, and commenting on project pursuit and design packages by working closely with other engineering and design team members. Responsibilities include: System level electrical (AC & DC) & communication layout design Electrical design understanding of power and distribution systems (low, medium and high voltage), emergency/standby generator and UPS Systems, grounding systems, engineering calculations, electrical code compliance Design development & optimization, field construction and installation means & methods Developing/contributing detailed design concepts for substation, solar and BESS system design Provide long term detailed design, optimization, and constructability support Develop, update, and use electrical engineering calculation tools Independent engineering report writing, evaluation Conduct project detailed design and QA/QC reviews Perform site visits as needed to verify that construction aligns with engineering design drawings Qualifications: Preferred graduate of four-year college or university with Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering program Minimum of 8 to 10 years of related work experience Competency with electrical system sizing at all levels, experience with Utility and/or Commercial scale renewable EPC projects Utility scale substation design experience is a plus Positive attitude and ability to work independently Experience in utility-scale solar/PV projects is highly preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Design experience in the layout, specification, and development of Utility level substations Advanced understanding of discipline specific technical designs, engineering principles, business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements Ability to apply engineering theories and principles Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD 2D, and other relevant software Strong analytical problem-solving skills Strong organizational and communication skills Physical Demands: Frequently works outdoors on uneven surfaces. Ability to travel up to 35%. Work Environment: Works in a climate-controlled environment at least 50% of the time. When in the field, may work in varying weather conditions.
