Under direct supervision, this position maintains geospatial and tabular data and relational database systems and assists in defining standards for data and warehouse infrastructure for the Environmental Division.In addition, this position performs various cartographic and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) functions and analyses.This position is also responsible for the gathering and preparation of data, maps, and related graphics for use in environmental analyses, online applications, database applications, documents, and presentations.

  • Design, develop, and manage both geospatial and tabular data warehouses for storage, organization, & retrieval of large volumes of data.
  • Ensure that the data warehouses are efficient, scalable, and secure.
  • Manage and maintain data warehouses by monitoring system performances, diagnosing and troubleshooting issues, and making necessary changes to optimize performance.
  • Process, clean, normalize, and integrate large data sets from various sources to ensure that the data is accurate, complete, and consistent.
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including geospatial professionals, database administrators, data stewards, and stakeholders.
  • Utilize geospatial methodologies and protocols for studies and ongoing projects within the Division.
  • Incorporate engineering plans into usable spatial data.
  • Research and assess best practices and alternate methods within the geospatial and data management communities for use in Division and enterprise-level purposes.
  • Provide support to other geospatial and database application users within the Division and the Department.
  • Prepare and update routine cartographic products and various types of visual information (data, maps, figures, and displays).
  • Follow standard operating procedures and protocols to ensure methods, accuracy, and quality control parameters are met.


Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geospatial technology, geography, computer science, information systems, data science, data management and analytics, or related field. Educational background with a focus on geospatial/data management preferred. Experience with geospatial project design and methodology creation; database creation, maintenance, and relationships; and the use of imagery resources and coordinate systems preferred. Experience in programming languages associated with geospatial technology such as Python, SQL, and Java.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Proficient knowledge of database management and enterprise level data storage, retrieval, standardization, and normalization.Proficient in various data warehousing technologies principally SQL databases.Must possess strong analytical skills to identify patterns and insights from large and complex data sets.Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, relational database creation and management preferred.Demonstrated ability in the use of geospatial software tools and functionality. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task. Attention to detail. Well-developed sense of urgency and follow-through.

Working conditions:Statewide travel including overnight travel as necessary.

Licenses, registrations and certifications:Valid driver's license.
