KIPP KC opened its first school, KIPP Endeavor Academy, in 2007 with approximately 31 fifth grade students. Today, KIPP Kansas City has grown to serve students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade and is currently educating approximately 1,000 students.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Model and support implementation of the school's vision and goals
  • Support the development of the Principal's school-wide vision and take an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school
  • Own the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision
  • With guidance from the Principal, lead the planning and goal setting for the grades/departments that s/he coaches and ensure alignment with school-wide vision and goals
  • Monitor progress towards goals utilizing campus and regional enabling systems
Build own and direct reports' instructional knowledge of standards, content, and instructional methods.
  • Content (Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment):
    1. Develop deep mastery of the academic standards in the subjects/grades for which s/he coaches, and strong understanding of academic standards for all subjects/grades. Understand the implications of standards on what a student should know and be able to do and connect teachers with relevant resources to improve their content knowledge
    2. Drive partnership with student support team to ensure that all students, including those with exceptionalities, have the access and support needed to achieve mastery
    3. Support the coordination and implementation of school-wide assessments
    4. Support and monitor strong Data Driven Instructional practices and structures to progress monitor achievement towards campus and regional goals
    5. Teach teachers how to assess for both student mastery and growth towards college readiness and insist that assessments are used to inform teacher instruction
    6. Study curriculum and assessment content and further develop understanding of how assessments map to content mastery, and what is required of students and teachers to accomplish mastery on assessments
    7. Develop own and teacher's knowledge of best practices in instructional methods and teach teachers how to match particular strategies to students' needs
  • Develop teachers to provide rigorous and high-quality instruction and support Principal in planning for and implementing enabling systems
    1. Data Analysis (Data-driven Instruction and Progress Monitoring):
      1. Lead Data Driven Instruction: Help teachers determine how data aligns to end-of-year goals (what is being assessed and how it maps to standards); break-out data to analyze how different student groups are performing; determine what data is saying about areas of student mastery and growth; and identify specific instructional actions and adjustments to meet students' needs
      2. Take ownership of the academic outcomes in classrooms assigned to coach/manage
  • Teacher Instructional Development (Instructional Coaching & Content Teams)
    1. Provide high-quality instructional coaching with frequent and scheduled teacher observations, actionable and bite-sized feedback, and accountability for adjustment in practice
    2. May lead or coach others who lead department/content/grade-level meetings that focus on planning for and norming on instruction and culture, practicing instructional strategies, and progress monitoring the department/content/grade level
    3. Work in partnership with Regional Team to ensure strong support and monitoring for curriculum implementation and content development
    4. Recommend to the Principal what school-wide professional development will be the highest leverage in improving student results; lead engaging, actionable, adult-learning professional development; and hold staff accountable for implementation of professional development outcomes
  • Implement Regional Evaluation system for Teachers
    1. Adhere to provided systems and timelines for completing teacher performance evaluations
    2. Collect data as required to complete evaluations
    3. Communicate with Principal regarding teachers performance scores and intent to return year or year
Support key Operational functions of the school
  • Implement the provided chromebook/iPad/or technology system in partnership with the IT vendor
  • Assist in making alternate schedules as needed for testing, assemblies, guest speakers, etc.
  • Coordinate major assessment testing logistics in partnership with the MDSO
  • Support in assigned duties for key daily procedures such as but not limited to: arrival, dismissal, lunch, etc.
Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 4 years of teaching experience and a strong record of helping underserved students achieve academic success
  • Experience with curriculum development and instructional methodology
  • Past experience leading adults in a school environment
  • Flexibility and willingness to actively participate in school community including, but not limited to: teaching classes and tutoring students, chaperoning overnight school trips, working with parents and families
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative and teamwork
  • Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Additionally, KIPP KC offers a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and retirement.

Start Date: July 1, 2024. All hired candidates must complete the background and fingerprint process and attend orientation.
