The team/department:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Telecommunications Engineer within Western Powers Telecommunications Design team located at Western Power Head Office, Perth, on a permanent full-time basis.

What you will be doing:

As Senior Telecommunications Engineer you will be accountable for developing and applying your specialist design capabilities to deliver competitive concept and detailed designs, design contract management and consulting services associated with Western Powers operational telecommunications systems. These accountabilities include:

  • Producing concept and detailed operational telecommunications designs of high complexity in support of the development of Western Powers Transmission and Distribution networks, coordinating with other specialist internal Western Power design teams
  • Prepare detailed engineering specifications, analyse tenders, manage external design contracts and initiate purchasing of equipment
  • Provide telecommunications engineering consultancy advice to internal stakeholders and external customers to assist them in options analysis, risk analysis, scope definition and project implementation
  • Prepare telecommunications design scopes and manage the design contract process to successfully deliver outsourced concept and detailed designs produced by external design service providers operating from Western Powers professional engineering services panel
  • Contribute to the assessment and integration of new technologies applicable to operational telecommunications systems;
  • Apply Safety in Design principles in the preparation of all concept and detailed design activities
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to colleagues working in graduate and experienced design roles
  • Deliver services to commercially competitive standards for technical excellence, safety, environmental quality, cost and customer satisfaction

The skills and experience you will have:

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Degree in electrical or electronic engineering recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a professional engineer
  • Eligibility for corporate membership of Engineers Australia
  • Extensive knowledge of operational telecommunications systems, concept, detailed design, and cost estimation processes
  • Sound knowledge of power system primary and secondary facilities including Protection and Automation systems
  • High level understanding and knowledge of engineering standards, compliance & regulations, Technical Rules and procedures applicable to secondary systems
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of current technological developments in the field of operational telecommunications
  • Valid WA Drivers License Class C or C-A
