Position Overview

Role: Telecommunications Engineer

Compensation: $36.47 per hour

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Telecommunications Services Manager

Location: Information Technology Division

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, responsible for the strategic planning and design of telecommunications infrastructure and enterprise network solutions.
  • Engage in troubleshooting, installation, implementation, and administration of telecommunications systems while providing Tier III support.
  • Analyze capacity challenges and develop effective capacity planning models.
  • Ensure that planned testing activities are carried out and formulate telecommunications security protocols.
  • Provide direct oversight to assigned personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED with 96 months of relevant experience, or an Associate's Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Information Technology with 48 months of experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields with 12 months of experience.
  • Proven experience in telecommunications, networking, computer science, or IT-related fields, with a focus on managing network projects and collaborating with teams to develop work plans.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain eligibility.
  • Certifications: A+, Project+, Network+, Security+, Shortel.
  • Valid Driver's License is required throughout employment.

  • Proficient in quality principles and tools, particularly in root cause analysis and problem-solving.
  • Effective planning, organizing, and supervisory skills for managing subordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate clear expectations regarding performance for individuals and teams.
  • Skilled in various communication methods to convey complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledgeable in creating an environment that enhances customer satisfaction.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and associated software applications.
  • Familiarity with system environments and various switches and routers for optical WAN and MAN networks.
  • Expert knowledge of enterprise-level tools and products that provide core network services.
  • Proficient in implementing and supporting telephony products and video teleconferencing solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of network configuration management and structured cabling.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
