SUMMARY

ZERO TO THREE seeks a fundraising professional for the position of Director of Individual Philanthropy. The Director is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding annual individual, leadership, and planned gifts. Reporting to the Chief Development & Strategy Officer and supervising the Development Database Coordinator and the Annual Giving Manager, this professional oversees the organization's unrestricted development efforts. This includes the creation of a development plan and working with prospective and current donors to determine their philanthropic interests as they align with ZERO TO THREE's mission. S/he builds and enhances relationships with ZERO TO THREE constituents for the purpose of supporting the organization's mission, cultivating and soliciting prospects to ensure a strong base of ongoing financial support. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation of best practice fundraising knowledge and, a track record of enacting effective strategies and fostering successful long-term relationships with donors, resulting in increased unrestricted revenue for the organization.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and maintain a Development Plan that outlines ZERO TO THREE's goals for unrestricted giving, articulates the case for support to donors, and identifies strategies and resources needed to achieve the fundraising targets.
  • Utilize a moves management approach in identifying and assigning prospects to different staff and board members and ensure appropriate background information is available.
  • Supervise the Annual Giving Manager who is responsible for implementing effective strategies for acquisition, cultivation, and retention of small and mid-range donors (under $5,000) and the annual campaign.
  • Oversee all aspects of the gift cycle: Initiate contacts with potential individual and major gift donors: (1) develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers, (2) move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, (3) maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
  • Create and determine strategies and actions needed to identify and develop individual and major gift donors. Actively seek and qualify new prospects for addition to the major gift pipeline through referrals from prospects, list reviews, and other methods.
  • Lead efforts to renew individual and major gifts from existing donors. Maintain long-term relationships with donors and prospects while seeking future donors.
  • Develop donor recognition strategies, cultivation events, and ensure acknowledgements for all gifts are executed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Oversee donor communications, including the quarterly Growth Chart newsletter and Annual Report, which includes storyboarding, writing content, choosing, and securing photos, and managing relationships with design and mail vendors.
  • Arrange, staff, and follow-up on donor/prospect meetings with the Executive Director, Chief Development and Strategy Officer, and ZERO TO THREE Board and staff.
  • Supervise the Development Database Coordinator and ensure all donor activity is appropriately documented in the Salesforce database and records are reconciled with Finance staff.
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of ZERO TO THREE's programmatic and policy efforts to effectively articulate priorities and fundraising objectives to donors.
  • Participate in the life of ZERO TO THREE, including attending conferences, events, briefings, and other activities as appropriate. Attend all appropriate Development Committee meetings and fundraising and cultivation events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the development department.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in fundraising or sales, particularly with individual giving experience or current Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential.
  • Practical knowledge of solicitation and fundraising operations, including online fundraising, moves management, and event coordination.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively about annual and campaign fundraising.
  • Results-oriented and data-driven with experience in donor databases, salesforce knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a variety of people internally and externally.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills as well as ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a highly collaborative atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of child development, early childhood education and/or experience working with young children or for an organization advocating for young children is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends, as needed.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in related field required and CFRE preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This position's salary is estimated to be mid $90,000s to mid $120,000s depending on experience, geo-location, budget, and other comparable and similarly scoped internal positions. In addition to salary, ZERO TO THREE offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, HRA, retirement contributions, generous leave benefits and more.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity and sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also, they may need to remain seated for extended periods, can perform repetitive motions, and reach for objects. An employee is frequently required to hold a writing instrument, communicate verbally, and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. They may be required to grasp objects, push, and pull objects, bend, stand, walk, squat, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for data preparation or analysis, and expansive reading. May need to lift up to 30 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. Depending on work location, the incumbent will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions conducive to a home environment. When travel is expected, the incumbent will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times.
