Sample Process Engineer - Product Sustainability, Quality, & Logistics

Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Analytical Sciences in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a Sample Process Engineer at the Senior Engineer / Principal Engineer level.

Zoetis discovers, develops, and manufactures a diverse portfolio of animal health medicines, biopharmaceuticals and vaccines designed to meet the real-world needs of veterinarians and the livestock farmers and companion animal owners they support. We are currently seeking to fill new positions to support our growing research portfolio.

Position Summary
This position will require a highly motivated, independent individual who can effectively collaborate with other team members to advance projects. The Sample Process Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining digital processes and solutions to manage information related to samples and supplies. This role requires a deep understanding of automation systems to support logistics and sample processing efficiently. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of process improvement through the implementation of automated workflows in an industry environment. This role is pivotal in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of logistics and sample management through innovative digital solutions and automation.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and implement digital solutions to track and maintain sample and supply data.
  • Own the sample automation systems, ensuring they are up-to-date and functioning optimally to support logistics operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate digital processes with existing workflows.
  • Analyze system performance and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide technical support and training to users of the sample automation systems.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology trends and advancements in automation and digital solutions.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in engineering, computer science, or related field with a minimum of 6 years industry experience.
  • Experience with automation scheduling software (Agilent VWorks, BioSero Green Button Go, etc.)
  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (e.g VB.Net, VBScript, Excel VBA, C#.Net, Python, JavaScript)
  • Experience programming at least one relevant liquid handler. Hamilton liquid handler programming preferred.
  • Experience with Hamilton Verso or Azenta automated stores.
  • Proven experience in automation systems and digital process development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • Skills and experience in experimental design, technical problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Sample Tracking/Inventory experience
  • Change Control/Equipment Validation experience
  • Preference for Clinical Trial knowledge
