POSITION SUMMARY HiAccounting is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its outsourced accounting division. The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for managing the client service experience and deliverables including financial statements and management reports. The Accounting Manager should be self-driven, passionate and client service focused – serving as a role model to the team. The Accounting Manager reports to the Director of Accounting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Technical Serves as the primary liaison with client personnel ensuring deadlines are met. Reviews workpapers and reconciliations necessary to support the financial statement closing. Ability to review financial statements for planning and opportunities. Create, update and monitor various management reports. Takes leadership in workpaper documentation and procedures for streamlining, quality, accuracy and efficiency for team. Advises clients regarding entity types, formation and business law. Able to strategize with client not only with accounting but finance and operations. Stays up to date with industry changes and GAAP and communicate to junior team members and clients accordingly. Able to independently drive decision making process by utilizing professional judgement and experience. Able to design complex procedures for multi-entity organizations, including consolidations across segments and industries. Completes software certification courses/examinations and is a technical resource to team. Emphasis on technology and continuously evaluate processes and procedures within the client services and implementation functions with emphasis on implementing efficiencies and identification of internal control issues. Client Service Deliver best-in-class customer service to clients and employees at all times, with an emphasis on being proactive, responsive, professional, and accurate. Understands client’s business and industry and establishes a full understanding of client’s service needs. Key part of decision making with the client in regards to change. Serve as the primary liaison with client personnel; ensure client deadlines are being met and manage client expectations regarding deliverables, budgets and timelines. Serves as client's trusted advisor. Little to no supervision needed from executive team to manage client. Develops relationships with client and takes part in client events. Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with client’s employees, and co-workers to promote a quality service image. Embraces team-based approach to client service. Encourages collaboration, open communication and problem solving in a team. Tracks and records time accurately. Understands client engagement agreement and is able to identify services outside of this scope. Business Development Identify new opportunities for clients and promote other company services to clients that would help them in their business. Takes a leadership role with the assistance of the Practice Development Manager to implement new clients. Ability to identify value-added services and planning opportunities within accounting, tax and general business to client. Often times is the lead on services for existing and new clients and is comfortable preparing proposals. Understands how pricing is done and is an integral part of bringing on new business. Practice Management Assist with new client implementation process including preparing a proposal for services, setting a budget and assigning project to team. Assist with new client interviews and develops a scope-of-work proposal and engagement letter. Sets engagement budgets. Ability to manage a large number of clients and client projects. Reviews time spent on projects and approves final invoices. Assist in implementation and monitoring of performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction. Staff Management Works closely with staff to answer questions and is available for help. Integral part of managing staff's billable hours and assisting with client invoicing. Helps ensure out of scope services are billable properly and communicated to client. Completes evaluations for junior staff and help with performance evaluation feedback. Plays an integral role in the decision-making process of hiring. Leadership role in overall culture of team. Helps facilitate team activities. Implement education/training programs to foster staff development/growth and appropriate certifications. Ability to resolve personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc. Communicates with executive team/HR accordingly. Other Practice integrity and professional judgment. Self-driven and takes initiative to research questions. Ability to work independently to resolve most issues but seeks advice from management when needed. Embraces technology and quickly adapts to technological changes. Takes a leadership role in company initiatives to implement new processes to streamline work flow. Deadline driven and completes tasks in a timely manner. SKILLS & ABILITIES The ideal Accounting Manager is familiar with accounting and financial operations in a fast-paced, for-profit environment. This person will meet most or all of the following requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably spent both in Public Accounting and industry, or any combination of education and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the minimum qualifications to perform the essential functions of this position. A solid understanding of GAAP accounting is required. Licenses: CPA license highly preferred, but not required. Computer Skills: Proficient knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Knowledge of Ultra Tax, Lacerte, Drake, or other professional tax software, and knowledge of QuickBooks, AccPac, Intacct or other accounting/bookkeeping software would be helpful. Other Requirements: Perform other duties as required. Availability to work additional hours or weekends, as projects demand Must be able to travel as required; overnight or extended stays as needed.
