Job Summary: The Director of the Early Child Development Center serves as the chief coordinator and liaison for the center. The director oversees the daily operations of the child care facility, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children. Responsibilities include coordinating child enrollment and programs, supervising classroom teachers, hiring and supervising work study students, managing the department budget, ensuring curriculum quality, preparing training materials, educating staff and families, substitute teaching when needed, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring compliance with state and accreditation regulations. Scope: Serve as the Director of the Early Child Development Center and act as the liaison between the center and a variety of university students, individuals, and departments. Responsibilities Leadership and Management: Supervise and support child care staff members and ONU work study students including hiring, training, and evaluating performance. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure high standards of care and education. Foster a positive, collaborative work environment. Facilitate and implement center child enrollment. Coordinate university student observers and presenters. Serve as a substitute in the classrooms when needed. Regularly communicate with parents, students, and university personnel. Handle delicate relationships and complex situations. Program Development: Create and oversee age-appropriate curricula and activities that promote the development of children. Regularly assess and adjust programs to meet the needs of children and parents. Evaluate curriculum and child assessments in the classroom and update accordingly. Compliance and Safety: Update and maintain operations in accordance with state child care licensing and accreditation requirements. Ensure facility meets all state licensing requirements and regulations. Implement safety protocols and emergency procedures. Prepare handbook and training materials for staff. Administrative Duties: Manage budgets, including monitoring expenses and revenues. Maintain accurate records for child enrollment and staff training. Handle billing and attendance records in collaboration with ONU Controller’s Office. Communication and Family Relations: Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians. Organize and participate in parent meetings and family engagement events. Quality Improvement: Evaluate and improve the quality of the child care program. Stay informed about best practices in early childhood education. Marketing and Outreach: Promote the facility through community outreach and marketing efforts. Conduct tours and informational sessions for prospective clients. Required Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Knowledge of child development principles and state licensing rules. Advanced knowledge of early childhood education theories and practices. First Aid, CPR, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Communicable Disease Certifications. Obtain professional development annually based on state and accreditation requirements. Complete state-required Administrative Rules and Review Course. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field. Three to five years of experience in early childhood education with at least two years as a director of a child care center.
