Identifies improvement opportunities and leads process improvement initiatives to ensure accuracy and integrity of company financial data. Essential Functions: Assist and support Corporate Controller to develop and implement strong financial controls. Monitor general ledger accounting activities to ensure that established accounting policies and internal control procedures are followed. Ensure internal control policies and procedures are followed and effective. Establish and maintain systems and controls, which verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, in particular, the Epicor ERP system. Work with the Accounting Team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Prepare reports that summarize Duke's financial position, including monthly consolidating and consolidated income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flow. Ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and budgets. Perform monthly actual vs. prior year analysis. Periodically support tax compliance activities with general knowledge of income and sales & use tax laws at the State and Federal levels. Track and report NPD activity to support R&D tax credit and capitalization compliance with IRS requirements. Inspire and support a strong culture of continuous improvement. Partner with CI to increase use of A3 thinking and greater utilization of lean problem-solving tools to drive MDI efforts. Lead initiatives to reduce transactional workload by leveraging systems and technology to speed cycle times and reduce manual effort required to accomplish accounting processes. Support annual independent audit review, including preparation of PBC schedules, subsequent event testing, interim audit review matters, and responding to auditor inquiries. Account for and prepare reporting for Duke's fixed assets, including managing and streamlining the capital appropriations process. Partner with Human Resources to manage the company travel program and expense reporting process, ensure effective utilization and integration of Concur, and periodically review and refresh the travel policy. Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports on an as-needed basis. The above list of essential duties is not exhaustive. CPA or CMA Certification and/or MBA is a plus. 7+ years of hands-on accounting experience. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of general accounting and cost accounting. Understands and can navigate the ERP to problem solve and perform complex financial analysis. Demonstrated ability to administer company-wide policies and implement effective controls. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and prioritize activities and develop realistic action plans. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, fostering enthusiasm, teamwork, and engagement. Demonstrated ability and propensity to apply Lean and Continuous Improvement principles to accounting and administrative processes. Exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions. Experience with International and multi-currency financial reporting is a plus. Required Abilities: Oral Expression - Ability to communicate information and ideas verbally so others will understand.
