Baton Rouge, United States Woman's Hospital Full time

The Financial Counselor performs procedures pertaining to all self-pay patients and patients who have insurance coverage but are unable to pay their out-of-pocket portion. Counsels patients to determine eligibility for programs that are available through the state welfare department and/or the financial assistance program at Woman's Hospital. Works closely with the Office of Eligibility in order to resolve issues that may cause a negative income on the cash flow of the hospital. Devises a payment schedule according to the guidelines of Woman's Hospital. Schedules and oversees the Financial Assistance Committee meetings in order to have documentation ready for review bimonthly. Acts as a buffer when the director and other managers are unavailable in order to prevent issues from escalating.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified with State of Louisiana as a Medicaid Application Specialist or obtain certification when the next certification class is available through the State of Louisiana.
  • Five years hospital or healthcare business office experience (insurance, pre-certification, collections, Medicaid program of Louisiana, etc.).
Responsibilities:
  • Seespatients in timely manner at Woman's Health Center for OB/GYN to qualify patients for the Charity Care Program or Medicaid.
  • Obtains all required documentation and completes application per program imposed deadlines once patient is chosen for possible Medicaid or Charity Care Program. All Charity Care letters and/or forms are sent out within 3 days from request date.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the job and the ability to relay relevant information to patients regarding the Charity Care or Medicaid application process.
  • Visits all potential Charity Care patients in their room with the intent of obtaining Charity Care or Medicaid applications as needed.
  • Utilizes the Epic system every day to ensure all accounts are worked on in a timely fashion and are coded correctly.
  • Utilizes vast knowledge of Charity Care approval and denial software for all Charity Care screenings.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital.

Monday - Friday

Pay Range:

Hourly/Non-Exempt

$14.00 - $20.00
