We are looking for a Director of Plant Operations interested in starting a SWEET career as part of our Production team at PIM's Pierce Site in Somerset, NJ.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Director, Plant Operations has direct oversight for Processing, Packaging, Sanitation and major Project Start-Up. Accountable for transformation of all business results for the operation including productivity, safety, quality, cost, and organizational development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lead the facility to achieve world class productivity in throughput, material usage and direct and indirect labor usage.
  2. Direct and support the maintenance program for consistent preventative maintenance and minimal downtime.
  3. Ensures adherence to the Company's Food Safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices 24/7. (HACCP, SQF, NSF, etc.)
  4. Ensure safety standards are being followed and upheld in plant to maintain a safe work environment.
  5. Support and lead Integrated Management Systems effecting and improving pillars of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Motivation, and Environment. All areas are on a sustainable journey of Improvement.
  6. Ensure all defined quality standards are maintained and executed in plant. While there is a quality staff, it is the ultimate responsibility of the Director, Plant Operations to ensure quality products are produced that meet both regulatory and customer expectations.
  7. Always maintain a high level of sanitation with the facility. This should be sufficient to satisfy internal, regulatory, 3rd party, and customers reviews for a food production facility.
  8. Responsible for the plant staffing strategy, skill and development of the staff, performance management and employee morale
  9. Implement effective training programs to develop leadership and technical skills within both the salaried and hourly workforce.
  10. Ensure appropriate engagement and teambuilding with employees. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a cohesive employee working environment across shifts and across departments.
  11. Responsible for preparing and executing the plant overhead budget, and direct product cost targets. Accountable for Department's capital budget and submission of projects.
  12. Support Marketing and Product Development on new product initiatives.
  13. Responsible for driving issues to root cause and developing a zero-loss mentality.
  14. Drives communication across shifts and throughout the facility.
  15. Report food safety and quality issues to Plant management and SQF.
  16. Follow PIM Brands GMP rules.
  17. Monitor fellow employees for adherence to GMP's.
  18. Must be able to work some weekend shifts and or Holidays on a rotational basis.
  19. Ability to work additional hours as needed.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and crouching. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls. Lifting and moving of objects weighing at least 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be evaluated and considered to enable an individual to perform the essential job functions. Must be able to work some weekend shifts on a rotational basis. Ability to work additional hours as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job will generally be performed in the manufacturing plant. When on the plant floor it is representative of a large, busy manufacturing operation. Noisy, active, objects on the floor, constant movement and traffic flow of motorized equipment. Hair net, beard net, assigned work uniform, protective eye wear and gloves are among the GMP required apparel that must be worn, if indicated, on the plant floor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • BS or BA degree in business, engineering, or similar degree.
  • 7-10 years of experience in the food processing industry.
  • 10+ years of prior plant or production leadership experience is required.
  • Strong planning and organization skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong leadership skills with provide record of developing staff from hourly associate to hourly management.
  • Proven decision-making ability using various analytical tools (variance reports, downtime analysis, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, etc.
  • High sense of urgency
  • Ability to work well under pressure in fast paced environment.
  • Toyota Production Systems / Lean Manufacturing / Six sigma experiences highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • SAP Experience preferred.
