Director, Risk

What will be your daily pursuit?:

Pursuit is searching for a Director of Risk & Insurance to lead our global insurance programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in risk management and insurance within the hospitality industry and a portfolio of tangible outcomes from successful management of these functions.

Pursuit's Director of Risk & Insurance will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing risks across our global operations, with a particular focus on insurance coverage and claims management. This role involves developing and implementing risk management and insurance strategies, policies, and procedures to protect the companys assets, reputation, and stakeholders.

The Director of Risk & Insurance must be insightful and intimately familiar with global insurance markets and related instruments. With proficiency in risk management processes and principles, along with expert-level knowledge of insurance programs, the successful candidate must be an authority in risk mitigation and capable of advising senior business leaders on all matters related to insurance and risk.

What is the compensation for this role?:

The salary range for this role is $130,000/year to $160,000/year based on experience and skill set. This role is eligible for a yearly 20% bonus. What will you do in this job?:

Insurance Program Management:

• Design, implement, and manage Pursuits global insurance programs, including property, liability, workers' compensation, and other relevant lines of coverage.
• Negotiate with insurance brokers and carriers to obtain the most favorable terms, conditions, and coverage.
• In a business partnership capacity, provide recommendations to senior leaders regarding decisions needed to balance the appropriate levels of coverage and cost to the organization.
• Work closely with operations leadership, legal and corporate development teams to ensure that newly acquired business operations are equipped with the appropriate coverage at the appropriate cost, always in a timely manner post-acquisition.

Claims Management:

• Oversee the administration of insurance claims, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, investigation, and resolution.
• Work closely with legal and finance teams to manage claims disputes and litigation, as necessary.

Risk Assessment and Analysis:

• Identify, analyze, and assess potential risks affecting Pursuit, including financial, operational, strategic, and reputational.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and develop risk profiles for each line of business (LOB) and collection.

Risk Mitigation and Management:

• Develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies and action plans to mitigate identified risks.
• Monitor the effectiveness of risk management strategies and adjust them as necessary to address emerging risks and changing conditions.

Policy and Procedure Development:

• Develop, update, and enforce risk management policies and procedures in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure team members are aware of and adhere to risk management policies and procedures.

Crisis Management and Business Continuity:

• Develop and maintain crisis management and business continuity plans to ensure Pursuit can rapidly respond to emergencies and disruptions.
• Lead crisis response efforts and coordinate with relevant stakeholders during emergencies.

Education and Training:

• Provide training and education to leaders and team members on risk management practices, policies, and procedures.
• Promote a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management throughout the organization.
• Ensure that the companys insurance coverage is clear and well-understood throughout the senior levels of the organization.

Reporting and Documentation:

• Prepare and present regular risk management reports to senior leadership.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to risk assessments, incidents, and mitigation efforts.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, finance, operations, and insurance teams, to manage risks effectively.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and external consultants as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

• Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging risks in the hospitality industry.
• Continuously improve risk management processes and strategies to enhance Pursuits risk resilience.

What skills and experience do you need for this job?:

Education

• Bachelors degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field; Masters degree a plus.
• Professional certification in risk management or insurance (e.g., CRMP, FRM, PRM, CERA, CPCU) strongly preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years progressive experience in risk management and insurance within the hospitality industry, with a focus on global operations.
• Proven ability to develop and implement effective risk management strategies and action plans that have translated into tangible results.
• Experience in crisis management and business continuity planning.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and tools.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Ability to travel internationally.
