They must demonstrate empathy towards homeless families and interact professionally with internal and external providers. Responsibilities include receiving legal referrals from SSVF providers, coordinating veteran documentation, notifying veterans about needed documents, and scheduling consultations with attorneys. The role involves administrative duties alongside the SSVF team to streamline referrals.The Housing Navigator builds relationships with housing sources, including landlords and case managers, to help participants secure and maintain safe, affordable housing in Wyandotte and Jackson County. This position supports individuals in transitional housing and SSVF programs by engaging landlords, ensuring compliance with housing rules, and providing tenant rights education. The focus is on housing as a foundation for stability and self-sufficiency. This includes, but is not limited to, organizing files, correspondence, sort mail, offer general staff support, client screenings, referrals. Responsibilities:Conduct screenings and referrals for veteran services.Serve as a liaison between clients and attorneys for LSV legal services.Meet bi-weekly with attorneys for case discussions and file closures.Close out client enrollment for the LSV program.Ensure proper intake and documentation for legal assessments.Prepare and follow up on release of information forms.Request necessary documents from veterans and maintain client files.Ensure compliance with LSV policies and procedures.Track calls, referrals, and consultations using reports and spreadsheets.Respond to phone calls and emails, managing important communications.Handle mail and deliveries; provide administrative support.Organize paperwork and manage data entry in the HMIS.Maintain electronic and physical filing systems.Understand and comply with LSV grant requirements.Develop and maintain partnerships with landlords in Jackson and Wyandotte County.Monitor local housing rental markets and negotiate rental agreements.Conduct inspections, assist with lease reviews, and arrange corrective actions.Maintain detailed occupancy notes and update HMIS records.Ensure compliance with regulatory agreements and fair housing laws.Coordinate eviction prevention services and report maintenance requests.Communicate needs and observations to team leaders for program improvement.Provide weekly housing reports to Program Manager and Director of Housing.Conduct landlord training and outreach to build relationships with housing providers.Attend meetings, training, and networking events.Advocate for participants to resolve issues with landlords.Demonstrate sensitivity and positive communication.Drive for agency business as needed.Assist staff and perform general office tasks as needed.Collaborate with the Program Manager and agency staff.Perform additional duties as assigned.QualificationsQualifications:Education or work experience equivalent to an Associate or Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Social Services, or related fields.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and verbal communication skills.Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, PowerPoint).At least one year of experience in legal and administrative duties preferred, along with prior customer service experience.Experience in data tracking and reporting is highly preferred.Strong attention to detail and accuracy with excellent verbal and written communication.Motivated, professional, and capable of maintaining confidentiality.Participation in LVS Team meetings as needed.Preference for candidates with three years of experience in property management, real estate, or supported housing.Knowledge of local housing markets in Jackson and Wyandotte counties.Comfortable conducting single-staffed home visits and familiar with HUD Housing Quality Standards for inspections.Flexible, with a positive attitude and ability to maintain professional conduct and appearance.Capable of working with minimal supervision, multitasking, and meeting deadlines.Experience working with people with disabilities and diverse backgrounds, demonstrating cultural awareness.Physically able to meet job demands, including lifting up to 25 lbs.Willingness to work under various conditions, including home visits, office work, and community engagement, with occasional weekends and evenings as needed.
