Job Summary

This position is the subject matter expert with respect to developing and operating the framework of risk management, control, reporting, and continuous efficiency improvement within the commercial organization. Assessing, monitoring, and reporting on all of Freeport LNG's commodity activities will be the foundation of the role. Position requires daily interface with the Commercial department's Commercial Execution, Toller Services and Corporate Support teams, as well as, Marketing, Accounting, and Finance teams. Ideal candidates will be self-starters and team players, requiring minimal oversight, and willing to take on multiple tasks simultaneously with a keen attention to detail. Advanced experience in commodity risk management or trading of energy commodities including NGL, LNG, Natural Gas, and/or ERCOT power, and strong understanding of ETRM systems, processes, and controls are required.

The ideal candidate for this Senior Analyst position must be experienced and have a thorough understanding of energy commodity transactions from procurement to invoicing, within the realm of ETRM systems, processes and risk reporting. Able to review and understand contracts related to NAESB, FERC etc., Coordinate and support overall customer services and other aspects regarding daily reporting of natural gas and hydrocarbons. The ideal candidate will be able to understand various commercial and third-party contracts, with a focus on ensuing commercial risks are captured, evaluated, reported, and most importantly appropriately mitigated on a non-discriminatory manner. To that end, this position will proactively identify potential issues, anticipate and analyze prospective solutions to issues as they arise, recommend corrective actions and coordinate the implementation of long-term solutions where necessary.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Continuously develop and improve FLNG's risk management activities using industry standard best practices and maintain corporate awareness of developing practices.
  • Monitor adherence to risk management policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and report positions, exposures, and commodity risk accurately and timely.
  • Liaise with front office and back office groups to understand complexities of transactions which impact the business, and with Freeport Internal Audit to ensure that the required controls are in place.
  • Investigate commodity risk and data anomalies for root cause, including determining and implementing proper corrective action.
  • Enhance existing reporting of positions, valuation, and other ETRM metrics.
  • Troubleshoot, design and implement new tools and reports to improve business functions, infrastructure, and socialization of information.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of data control management including quality, vetting, and reviewing all external inputs and updates into the ETRM.
  • Work with various SMEs and business groups to lead ETRM system design, configuration, development, testing and implementation for enhancements, maintenance and upgrades.
  • Analyze and review proposed new products, strategies, and transactions to facilitate system improvements, business development, and other changes necessary to support dynamic business needs.
  • Identify, analyze, and proactively drive improvements to existing processes, including ensuring that system procedural controls are effective and documented appropriately.
  • Maintain risk related configuration data in the ETRM system, including contract & vendor management with Legal & Procurement groups.
  • Support development, documentation, and management of processes and procedures in relation to Commercial Policies & Procedures (CPP), Business Continuity Plan (BCP), Non-conformance Review (NCR), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), User Guides, and continuous process improvements (CPI).
  • Support the daily and monthly Corporate Support inventory balancing, commodity actualization, commodity settlements, and invoicing functions as required.
  • Ad hoc analytical support as directed by the Lead of Corporate Support.
  • General Project Management to plan, organize, and control resources, procedures, and timing for an administrative or business process including: • Organizing project teams, assigning individual responsibilities, developing project schedules, and determining resource requirements • Monitoring and reporting on the status of projects including cost, timing, and staffing • Ensuring adherence to internal and external quality standards • Identifying/resolving obstacles to completing project on time and to budget • May include work managing multiple, interrelated projects (including business transformation projects) • On some projects, the work may include integrating vendor tasks into the project plan and tracking and reviewing vendor deliverables.
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office tools specifically with regard to advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Ability to design and prepare process flow diagrams.
  • Good knowledge of the natural gas, power, LNG, and NGL commodity markets.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the use of one or more Energy Trading and Risk Management Systems Strong understanding of physical and financial commodities trading, and risk management controls.
  • Ability to interpret and maintain in-depth understanding of key commercial agreements.
  • Strong, effective and accurate verbal, written, and presentation communications.

Minimum Qualification/Work Experience

Minimum Education Required: BA in finance or related business or quantitative discipline. Advanced degree is preferred.

Minimum Experience Required: 3+ years' experience in commodity risk management or trading of energy commodities (NGL, LNG, Natural Gas, ERCOT); with a strong understanding of ETRM systems, processes, controls and risk management. 5+ years' experience is preferred.

HSE Roles and Responsibilities

Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
