Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is an integral part of the Finance and Accounting team performing the pivotal role of analyzing and reviewing the day-to-day accounting operations, while ensuring adherence to established accounting standards and regulatory guidelines. The Senior Accountant demonstrates a robust foundation in accounting practices, meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational capabilities, and a demonstrated aptitude for interpersonal communication, characterized by cooperation, amiability, and proactive engagement.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with Controller and Assistant Controller to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Accounts Payable:

- Support and review the accounts payable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Complete monthly review of expenditures in compliance with Catholic Charities' Policy and Procedures.
- Verify that payroll allocation and other expenses are reflected accurately in the accounting records and reported properly in the programs and departments.
- Accounts Receivable:

- Support and review accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of, payments, and collections.
- Complete weekly and monthly pledge and contribution reconciliation to the General Ledger against development/Advancement system.
- Monitor and review accounts receivable based on daily grant claims/invoice submission in collaboration with Grant Accounting.
- General Ledger Management:

- Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Reconciliations:

- Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Reconcile Trial Balance Accounts
- Investment Roll forward:
- Record entries and maintains report.
- Fixed Assets:
- Monitor and reconcile Construction in Progress (CIP)
- Depreciation schedule maintained and recorded.
- Notes Payable:
- Maintain Debt Rollover and record accrued interest.
- Monthly Financial Report Packages:
- In collaboration with the Controller and Assistant Controller support preparation of monthly financial report packages.
- Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and file Welfare exemption and Business property taxes.
- Audit Support:

- Support Controller and Assistant Controller with the annual financial audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Process Improvement:

- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the accounting function.
- Work with Assistant Controller to implement best practices and procedures as needed.
- Ad Hoc Projects:

- Participate in special projects and initiatives as needed, providing financial expertise and support to cross-functional teams.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Controller, Chief Financial Officer, or Chief Executive Officer.
- Work with Diocese of Santa Rosa and local parishes as appropriate and requested.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or education in accounting with 5 or more years of experience as account manager or full cycle bookkeeper, a minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting work, required. An additional four to six years of experience as account manager or full cycle bookkeeper may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficiency with computer-based accounting systems required. Catholic Charities uses SAGE-Intact Accounting as its base accounting software and uses Microsoft 365 Suite programs. Advanced Excel skills required.
- Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a sense of humor and a positive, solution-oriented approach.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperative, friendly, proactive, and helpful attitude. Ability to work closely with employees and volunteers to ensure a positive and constructive environment within the program or department and throughout the Agency.
- Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients.
- Valid driver license and at least state required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation. Must be willing and able to travel between agency sites.
- Must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting) in accordance with the Diocese of Santa Rosa's policies prior to start of employment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
