About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic, Student, and Faculty Affairs, the College Recruitment Specialist has primary oversight and responsibility for the recruitment, admissions, and enrollment of all graduate and undergraduate students within the West Virginia University School of Public Health. The incumbent will provide a leadership and supervisory role for staff in areas associated with student recruitment and success. Interpret and administer university undergraduate admission policies and procedures.

What you'll do:
  • Manage the application, admission, matriculation, and enrollment of qualified candidates for all undergraduate and graduate programs in the West Virginia University School of Public Health.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for increasing enrollment and admissions into the School of Public Health.
  • Supervise support staff in the management of processes and procedures for handling incoming files for admission and accepted student files, communications regarding admissions criteria and decisions, application procedures and general academic questions and in the organization of data for the admissions committees.
  • Meet with unsuccessful applicants who seek possible improvement for future admissions attempts.
  • Analyze admission and enrollment data and reports to assess current and future admissions criteria and enrollment policies.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to students regarding registration for courses and management of implementation, maintenance, changes, etc. for all programs.
  • Ensure that university and School of Public Health policies and procedures are followed and upheld, which includes the updating of SPH policies and guidelines for submittal to the Dean or designee for final approval and implementation.
  • Serve as the liaison for all student related issues regarding admissions and enrollment within the university and externally as appropriate or required.
  • Develop and manage strategies, goals, and proposals for recruiting cycle. Manage the coordination and implementation of events that directly relate to SPH targeted students, including school specific events and events hosted by WVU admissions.
  • Develop prospect leads using enrollment management tools to recruit students. Develop and maintain expert knowledge of current recruiting efforts by WVU, benchmarks and Schools nationwide that are similar to WVU SPH or to schools that we aspire to in terms of targeted enrollments.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of current WVU policies such as financial aid, scholarships, admissions, etc. Oversee Program Directors and potential students on admission policies. Create, develop and implement new and creative ways to incorporate various school administrators and faculty in the recruitment and retention processes.
  • Provide students with essential information and assign student mentors with guidance from departmental faculty. Promote specified public health elective courses to all University enrolled students. Monitor potential students' progress toward enrollment. Admit accepted students into the SPH and University databases; send offer letters to accepted students. Forward alumni data to the HSC Alumni Office. Respond to requests from internal and external agencies for data reporting. Lead and manage the planning, development, and execution of student orientation, retention, and alumni events.
  • Collaborate on efforts of student services existing work with student and alumni organizations if avenues for recruiting are available.
  • Assess participation with ongoing WVU SPH and university career fairs and independently select visits based on our school's recruiting priorities.
  • Collaborate with the school's Director of Communications to:

    • Suggest content for social media strategies that complement the overall recruiting and retention efforts.
    • Suggest content based on upcoming events or current events for student and alumni newsletters.
    • Advise on communication(s) to the student body regarding support and auxiliary services, student life, events, clubs, organizations, resources that could be beneficial in aiding publicity of our school to aid in recruiting purposes.
    • Advise on admissions information in the development of content for potential students on the SPH website.
    • Advise on all web site information in regard to admissions purposes.
  • Contribute ideas that could aid in student recruitment when the programming for National Public Health Week is done annually.
  • Identify and communicate local, state, and national scholarship opportunities to aid in recruiting efforts.
  • Supervise and mentor student ambassadors in management, budget accountability and sensitivity to diversity issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Program planning and implementation skills.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Skilled in the configuration and use of computerized database programs.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
