What does a Systems Engineer do at GAINSCO?

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure virtual machines, virtual networks and other cloud-based resources; as well as equivalent on-prem Vmware resources.
  • Monitor and optimize resources for performance, cost, and security Configure and manage network infrastructure components such as routers, switches, firewalls, and SD-WANs.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain VPNs, VLANs, and other network security measures.
  • Ensure system backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans are in place.
  • Manage Active Directory, group policies, and identity and access management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers and IT support to provide technical expertise and support for projects.
  • Research and implement creative solutions to reach business goals of staying competitive in the marketplace.
  • Execute code promotions to production environment during off hour deployment windows.
What is required?

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • In lieu of a degree, 14 or more years of related work experience may suffice.
Experience:
  • 10+ years of professional experience in IT Infrastructure.
  • 10+ years of Microsoft Windows Server architecture and administration experience.
  • 5+ years hands on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and networking.
  • 10+ years of experience in network administration including routers/switches, firewalls, SD-WANs, wireless access points.
  • 10 + years of Active Directory and Group Policy administration.
  • 8+ years of Virtualization administration.
  • Required experience with backup and storage management.
  • Required experience migrating on-premise applications to cloud environments.
  • Required strong knowledge of networking protocols, security, and best practices.
  • Required strong knowledge and experience with supporting Microsoft 365 services.
Other skills and abilities:
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, VBScript, Python).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+ preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
