About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior underwriting Manager within Small Business Credit Services organization. This leader will be responsible for managing a team of 40 underwriting professionals that support small business credit card lending quality, productivity, and service standards for underwriting new credit and line increase decisions. WF launched the brand-new small business credit card on February 2024. The business is going through a significant growth journey. This leadership role will be the key contributor for product, process, risk framework, and system development. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record in building high-performing underwriting teams that drive business results through effective leadership and team member engagement. This collaborative leader must be capable of initiating action and managing change. It requires a leader with strong relationship management, influencing, vision and execution skills. Leader must possess strong business acumen with ability to balance business growth and efficiency with managing risks within Wells Fargo's risk appetite while supporting an outstanding customer experience.

In this role, you will:
  • Supervise staff in tasks and processes to ensure timely completion, quality, and compliance in Underwriting.
  • Manage and develop teams of individuals and managers in Underwriting
  • Approve loans in excess of department level authorities
  • Ensure conformity with bank policies and procedures
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for development and improvement in the team functions
  • Monitor and review staff underwriting and portfolio management performance
  • Prepare or review reports provided to more experienced management regarding portfolio performance
  • Interpret and develop processes for more complex workflow within the team
  • Collaborate with and influence professionals and management
  • Interact directly with customers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Underwriting
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
  • Implement and monitor tracking and performance mechanisms
  • Ensure all procedures are in compliance with government regulations and bank policies
  • Participate in regular internal audits and exams, and RCSA workshop.
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners on credit policy development, system enhancement and origination process design.
Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of Underwriting experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of Management experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • 8 + years underwriting experience
  • 5 + year direct management experience
  • Experience managing large teams
  • Advanced level underwriting and management of large enterprise sized clients in the lending or card space
  • Strong experience with underwriting policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Strong experience with financial statements analysis
  • Possess strong written, verbal, and presentation skills to communicate effectively across a variety of audiences
  • Advanced background working with and drawing conclusions from quantitative and qualitative data
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to self-manage to ensure highest-priority work is completed
  • Must be able to manipulate large amounts of data, extract key insights, and clearly and concisely communicate actionable recommendations based upon your findings
  • RCSA experience
Job Expectations:
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Hybrid Schedule -3 days office and 2 days remote
