Position Overview:

As a vital member of the Partner Services team, the Underwriting Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the underwriting team throughout the underwriting process. This includes evaluating risks, reviewing policy details, and establishing suitable coverage levels. Please note that this position pertains specifically to insurance underwriting, not mortgage underwriting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily operations of underwriting under the guidance of an Underwriter or Senior Underwriting Assistant.
  • Engage in daily communication with Underwriters and Senior Underwriters to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Support audit preparations and maintain high-quality processing throughout the policy lifecycle.
  • Develop and uphold strong working relationships with both internal and external teams.
  • Organize and maintain underwriting files, ensuring all relevant documents are accurately filed and documented within the system.
  • Acquire and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the underwriting guidelines, coverage forms, enhancements, rating plans, and workflow.
  • Follow up with Brokers and relevant departments regarding outstanding subjectivities, loss run requests, inspections, and other necessary documentation.
  • Assist in reviewing new and renewal submissions to verify compliance with underwriting criteria and completeness of documentation.
  • Process non-renewals, cancellation letters, and endorsements, and review, finalize, and issue policies.
  • Underwrite risks and assist the Underwriting team in alignment with the business plan and within designated underwriting authority.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Commercial Property Insurance Underwriting or as an Underwriting Assistant, particularly in Surplus Lines.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Ability to efficiently learn new systems.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, understanding the significance of business needs.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the middle market commercial property insurance sector and regulatory landscape.
  • Familiarity with underwriting or working with Ground Up, Primary, and Excess policies.
  • Experience using raters for premium calculations.
  • Background in wholesale brokerage, MGA, or carrier roles within Surplus Lines.

Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $70,000. This role is remote, with occasional in-office activities required. Candidates must reside in the United States and have authorization to work without the need for sponsorship.
