Role Summary:

In this senior-level position, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing MGA underwriting operations. Your responsibilities will encompass both expert underwriting and risk assessment, as well as project initiatives aimed at optimizing the efficiency of underwriting processes. You will be tasked with developing key performance indicators and analyzing data to provide insights that influence profitability trends. This role may also involve direct engagement with clients and agents.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment (70%):

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of complex risks for third-party insurance providers, focusing on risk characteristics and trends to ensure appropriate coverage selection and pricing.
  • Utilize risk data to inform pricing strategies, coverage options, and terms and conditions.
  • Analyze claims and loss history to determine necessary actions for individual accounts or programs.

Underwriting Performance and Best Practices (20%):

  • Provide ongoing underwriting performance insights to the management team.
  • Serve as the primary resource for data integration, analysis, and presentation within the organization.
  • Leverage expertise in surplus lines and market trends to identify factors affecting profitability and growth.
  • Collaborate with leadership to create management reports and presentations.
  • Implement both short-term and long-term strategies for risk pricing and terms.

Industry Engagement & Relationship Building (10%):

  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues, agents, and carriers.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and competitor activities by participating in industry events.
  • Act as a resource for the sales team and management.
  • Utilize professional relationships to propose innovative product ideas for distribution with carrier partners.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in specialty lines or commercial underwriting.
  • Strong understanding of surplus and specialty insurance.
  • Proven experience in Excess & Surplus lines.
  • Familiarity with agency management systems.

This position allows for flexible work arrangements, requiring a minimum of 10 days per month in the office.
