WHAT WE’RE OFFERING The Accounting Supervisor oversees aspects of accounting functions, including the management and development of members of the accounting team. This position plays a significant role in developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and initiatives focused on overall operational excellence and practices, in support of United Communication’s vision and mission. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required. Supervise accounting activities in, but not limited to, accounts payable, carrier access billing, cash disbursements, customer credits and collections, journal entries, and payroll. Monitor individual and team results to identify and act on both positive and negative performance trends to ensure attainment of company, individual, and team goals. Routinely conduct performance reviews with each team member. Manage accounting functions of the organization, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls, designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial and operational results, and ensure all reported results comply with GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements. Reconcile general ledger accounts and review all other accounting reconciliations for accuracy. Approve invoices, timesheets for accounting, NECA reporting, and sales tax reporting. Interface with outside audit firms, banks, insurance agencies, and credit card companies. Maintain working relationships with lending institutions to ensure compliance with all obligations, timely payment of interest and principal, and adequate access to working capital to support growth needs. Lead the regulatory compliance and revenue maximization efforts of the company. Ensure all time, cost, and investment reporting practices are accurate and consistent and structured to maximize cost recovery mechanisms and meet regulatory compliance requirements. Work with regulatory consultants to develop and file accurate cost studies and forecasts. Monitor state and federal regulatory policy changes and opportunities and provide recommendations around improvements to products and/or policies and procedures that can produce improved financial results. Track all filing and compliance deadlines and ensure the Company files complete and accurate reports meeting all of its regulatory obligations. Work with department heads to continually educate on and track regulatory compliance matters and to ensure all policies, procedures, and recordkeeping are adequate. Maintain working knowledge of all internal and external systems necessary to support all departmental operations. Specifically, manage and implement all aspects of accounting and CABS software modules within Innovative Systems. Participate in ongoing educational and networking opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of issues as they relate to accounting standards, regulatory procedures and potential reform, and products and services. WHAT YOU BRING BS or BA degree from a 4-year college or university, with major in Accounting or Finance, required; CPA or CMA preferred. 3+ years’ experience in a direct supervisory role of accounting or business functions. Advanced understanding of accounting and billing software, with advanced word processing and email skills, along with the ability to review and analyze reports in company systems. Ability to touch-type at 40+ WPM and use a 10-key required. Experience training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel. Demonstrates high ethical standards, a strong work ethic with an emphasis on team commitment, showing respect for others, the ability to acknowledge and build on others’ ideas, and support for group decisions. Desire to implement procedures to maximize profits and minimize costs to maintain steady growth. Ability and interest to work in a dynamic technology environment. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public with varying degrees of accounting and regulatory knowledge. Knowledge of advanced level mathematics, including the ability to create income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements along with related profitability and penetration analysis. Ability to operate office equipment, including personal computers, phone systems, and software applications. Must have an understanding of process standardization procedures and the ability to create and maintain written documentation and training materials. Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized with the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.
