About the Role

We are currently recruiting a Senior Structural Discipline Engineer with specialisation in structural integrity to work within our Engineering Governance and Technical Stewardship team at our Port Operations. You will be the structural Subject Matter Expert for BHP’s port assets focusing on reducing business risk, improving reliability and performance through the utilisation of best in class technical support and engineering practices. Reporting to the Superintendent GTS - Port, key responsibilities include:

Undertake design calculations in accordance with AS4100, AS3600, AS1170 and AS4324

Review and approve complex engineering methodologies

Undertake design engineering including provision of calculations

Provide on-site support for maintenance activities

Provide coaching and mentoring to junior team members

Provide engineering support and diagnostics in breakdowns

Participate in Root Cause Analysis/Investigations and improvement implementation

Participate in business case development for Operational and Capital expenditure

Input to strategic direction for port assets

Build excellent working relationship with key stakeholders including OS/Site Maintenance / Engineering Managers & Superintendents

Monitor compliance to technical standards with respect to structural assets

Provide risk-based advice to ensure continued safe operation of the Port assets

About You

You will be a highly skilled Engineering professional with expert knowledge of materials handling assets. You thrive on delivering key outcomes focused around safety management, technical governance and continuous improvement. In addition, you will possess the following:

A proven track record of safety and risk management

Minimum tertiary qualification in Engineering (Structural)

Proven success in a similar role

Vast experience in Engineering design; including:

Structural Analysis (Steel and Concrete) and Modelling (Space Gass)

Finite Element Analysis (Femap/Nastran/ANSYS preferred)

Jacking and lifting of equipment

Fatigue/End of life assessments to AS4100 or BS7608

Knowledge of Australian Standards (AS4100, AS3990, AS3600, AS1170, AS1210, AS1657, AS4991 etc)

Extensive experience dealing with complex mining assets. Balanced Machines and Car Dumpers experience would be highly desirable

Site based practical experience with maintenance and operations

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

A commitment to coaching and improving team capability
