The Director of Career Services provides strategic vision and leadership for Graduate Career Services (GCS). Develops and manages GCS and the GCS team effectively and efficiently. Manages the program budget and deploys resources effectively. Seeks and implements career service improvements. Champions GCS and our students across all internal and external stakeholders.
About the College: The Harbert College of Business has a strong tradition of providing highly desirable graduates and generating knowledge that drives diverse business thought and sustainable business practice. The college and its programs consistently rank among the nations best public undergraduate and graduate business programs. The Harbert College has experienced steady enrollment growth in recent years and currently serves well over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students through six academic departments offering eight undergraduate majors and multiple Masters and Ph.D. options. The college pioneered online masters and executive education programs that are now ranked among the very best in the nation. The college has invested in building a nationally recognized faculty that moves thought forward through research, engages with industry, and delivers relevant and current instruction.
Graduate Career Services: Known for having some of the longest-running and most innovative graduate distance education programs in the country, the Harbert College of Business has a full suite of nationally-ranked graduate programs including Full-Time and Online MBA programs, four MS programs, and three Executive Programs - Executive MBA Program (EMBA), a Physicians Executive MBA Program (PEMBA), and the Masters in Real Estate Development Program (MRED). These programs currently host over 1,000 graduate students.

The director is an academic staff member who understands the operations of a university and:
- Provides strategic vision and leadership for Graduate Career Services (GCS). Develops and manages GCS and the GCS team effectively and efficiently. Manages the program budget and deploys resources effectively. Seeks and implements career service improvements. Champions GCS and our students across all internal and external stakeholders
- Coaches students through the career exploration and discovery process. Assists students in the development, implementation, and execution of their individual career search process. Delivers coaching services through individual and group appointments.
- Proactively seeks out and establishes relationships with graduate-level recruiting teams at recognized employers in anticipation of student needs. Represents AU, HCOB, and Graduate Programs to hiring firms and positions HCOB GCS as a candidate resource for firms for interns and career positions. Assists students as able with connections to target firms. Works in parallel with students as they identify and drive their own company relationship process.
- Develops and delivers opportunities outside the classroom that enhance students competitiveness in the marketplace. Includes but is not limited to employer-related activities (e.g., find, setup, and host/travel to employers and events, etc.) and curriculum/programming (e.g., Excel Bootcamp, Leadership Development, etc.) that enhances skills needed in the workplace.
- Responsible for enhancing program reputation and stature including overseeing accurate and high integrity accreditation and ranking data collection and reporting.
- This position will include possible work on evenings and weekends and some travel is expected
- Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion or other employment decisions.
Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Business or related field and 8 years of Experience in coordinating and/or providing career planning and counseling services.
OR
PhD in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Business or related field 6 years of Experience in coordinating and/or providing career planning and counseling services.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Selected candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the term of employment.
