**The role youll contribute:**

The Child Life Specialist provides therapeutic evaluation, education and recreational services to the pediatric patients who are in the hospital while helping to minimize stress and anxiety for the child or adolescent. Advocates for the child/adolescent and family for a positive health care experience. Adheres to Florida Hospital Tampa Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

**The value youll bring to the team:**

Directs play activities in the playroom and works with bed rest children as indicated.

Assesses patients psychological reaction related to illness, separation, hospitalization, cultural influences and medical procedures.

Conducts consults within 24 hours of request.

Works closely with the pediatric medical staff and supportive departments.

Plans for interventions are based on patients needs and situation.

Prepares patients for medical procedures and surgeries using play equipment, books, dolls, etc.

Engages siblings and assists them in understanding the patients experience.

Keeps playrooms clean and organized with appropriate toys.

Routinely evaluates the quality and condition of the toys and other play equipment.

Qualifications

**The expertise and experiences youll need to succeed** **:**

**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED** **:**

Ensure infection control

Prior Child Life Specialist experience of at least one year in the healthcare setting.

Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Academic Preparation of Bachelors or Masters Degree in the behavioral sciences.

Minimum of one year related experience in a hospital Child Life Service.

Valid AHA BLS certificate
