Aspen Insurance The Role: Lead the implementation of the Underwriting strategy across the Group, through defining infrastructure, building relationships with key internal partners, and consistently embedding underwriting processes to enhance consistent underwriting processes across Aspen. Key Accountabilities: Inputs to and translates organisation vision and Divisional/Functional strategy into operational deliverables and provides tactical leadership and support to managers to achieve positive results for the business in line with strategy Drives business performance through others facilitating effective planning, control and support mechanisms to ensure delivery of the business plan in line with market and shareholder expectations Meet with internal and external stakeholders regularly to ensure proper governance is being implemented to meet annual goals. Ensure clear alignment, understanding, and implementation of group underwriting processes. Assist with management of appropriate projects identified as opportunities to improve efficiencies and workflows. Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that activity meets business expectations. Encourage a strong culture of compliance within Aspen to support the business in minimizing risk and developing effective working processes. Liaise with internal and external auditors and other external parties to share information and raise awareness of key developments/issues. Continuously look to improve the quality of findings and recommendations. Oversee the segment entity performance reviews, including management of consistent reporting and data consolidation Lead the implementation and oversight of the underwriting authority framework Working with Group Underwriting Portfolio Director, underwriting and ops teams on re and ins project that think about how to embed underwriting controls into underwriting tools submission tools etc Direct the management of LOA’s including creation and implementation Develop and maintain a structure to monitor process breaches Translates our strategy, product roadmap and regulatory requirements into scalable and automated operational processes, and, in some cases, well-defined manual execution actions to keep the business running smoothly. Provide high quality advice and support to Senior Leadership Team (e.g., interpreting information, assessing risks and impacts etc., to enable informed decision making.) Prepares information and content for Aspen’s Boards and Committees and senior level reporting, to ensure all relevant stakeholders receive information which will inform decision making, action planning, and regulatory developments. Take part in cross business project groups and actively participate in other initiatives requiring Underwriting structure support, to support business objectives. Lead as operations liaison between business, service and technology platform providers, carriers, and various stakeholders to define operational requirements into the project roadmap, while maintaining regulatory compliance across products and lines of business. Be the subject matter expert on underwriting structure across Aspen Provide real time capability to react quickly to emerging issues and take on strategic projects that drive growth and operational efficiencies. Identify data, process, and technology issues through rigorous observation and own analysis of operational performance metrics and processes. Provides tactical direction and support to operational management within own function / department or specialist teams to ensure that people, resources and processes are aligned with business needs and fit for purpose Manage, resource, motivate, develop and focus the functional management team to ensure the required standards of performance and support the continuing personal and professional development of all team members Manage appointment, dismissal, performance management and reward of the management team to effectively manage resources within the function Establish clear accountabilities and authority levels for direct reports and build a strong culture of accountability and performance in order to ensure delivery of goals Skills & Experience: Educated to at least degree level or equivalent standard ideally with a further relevant qualification. At least 8 years of relevant underwriting work experience. Solid understanding of the re/insurance industry. Strong program management and analytical capabilities. Proficient in Microsoft 365, Excel, policy management/rating platforms Able to work independently to manage multiple deadlines and tasks efficiently with little direction. Demonstrated ability to work well within a global team and adept at handling competing priorities with excellent time management skills. Drive and ‘can do’ approach with a willingness to take ownership. Resilient, problem solving approach. Excellent interpersonal skills and team player. Conceptual and analytical ability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for communicating compliance and regulatory issues to key stakeholders. High degree of commercial awareness. Ability to represent team in a range of forums. Ability to influence others to deliver solid results.
