GENERAL STATEMENT:

FUNCTION OF POSITION:

As a Senior Center Coordinator, this is an administrative position where you will oversee and lead in creating and developing programs and promoting activities that will serve the seniors who attend the senior center. You are responsible for coordinating programs and activities for the seniors who attend the senior center. You will plan, facilitate, and oversee daily activities, day trips, and special occasions for the facility. Other responsibilities include managing the program budget, maintaining records, and preparing reports. As the coordinator, your duties also include recruiting volunteers for the center. You may also be expected to represent your senior center in the community and plan fundraising events to help with budgeting. You will also be responsible for connecting with local agencies that serve seniors within our community to assess how we can best serve them. Some other duties include but are not limited to assisting in the food pantry, and assisting with summer camp, VBS, and other areas when requested.
SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, holiday

This job has some flexibility 7 am - 3:30 pm or 7:30 am - 4 pm.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  1. High school graduate with a demonstrated ability to oversee and coordinate activities and programs within the senior population.
  2. Related experience in the field of social services or senior services is preferred but not required.
  3. Ability to read and write clearly in English.
  4. Work with clients from various backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age or older and have a current WA Driver License
  2. Must be able to clear the Motor Vehicle Records check.
  3. Applicants must comply with the child protection policies of The Salvation Army.
  4. An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, program, and practices.
  5. Knowledge of Photography and Videography products, technology, and editing software
  6. Knowledge of social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram
  7. Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of volunteers.
  8. Ability to work independently or with other staff members.
  9. Ability to keep calm in demanding situations.
  10. Preferably will have First Aid & CPR certification, Food Handlers permit, and Bloodborne Pathogens training. This can be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ADMINISTRATION
  1. Keep attendance and program statistics.Prepare monthly reports.
  2. Receipt and deposit all program fees and donations daily.
  3. Handle all public relations and promotions for the Senior Center as pre-approved by the Officers.
  1. Weekly news articles to area papers.
  2. Letters to special interest groups, schools, and churches on programs offered.
  3. Develop brochures and information sheets for new programs.
  4. Change out program information on the monitors monthly.
  5. Monthly calendar.
  1. Set up goals for Senior Center programs and work towards maintaining the highest income possible.
  1. Keep all files and Senior Center records up to date.
  2. Keep current on new programs, techniques, and equipment.
  3. Handle all Senior Center correspondence.
  4. Communicate with service groups, other Salvation Army programs, community centers, churches, etc. on programs.
  5. Deal with suggestions, incidents, accidents, and complaints in a professional manner.
  6. Set up and or schedule work with the Corps Officer and/or Program Manager in handling the transportation needs for the senior center programs and outings.
  7. Keep the Corps Officer and/or Program Manager informed of activities, equipment, and facility needs.
  1. Serve as a resource person for information on Social Services for Senior Citizens and be the contact person for other agencies providing direct services to The Salvation Army Senior Center. (i.e. RSVP, AARP, Visiting Nurses, Senior Services of Seattle/King County, South Seattle Community College, SPCA, and Metro Transportation, etc.)
  1. Must effectively demonstrate abilities in program planning and management.
  2. Must effectively demonstrate the ability to work with a wide age range of people.

PROGRAMS:
  1. Strive to develop high-quality programs to meet the seniors' needs of men and women within a two-mile radius of our center.
  2. Senior Programs:
  1. Set up schedule and registration procedures.
  2. Follow pre-determined lesson objectives, goals, and set format.
  3. Set up evaluations for instructors and programs.
  1. Develop themed days, special events speakers, and field trips for the seniors.
  2. Assist with corps and community center programs as needed, such as Day Camp, Food Bank, Homework Center, and other events.
VOLUNTEERS:
  1. Recruit and train volunteers to assist in the administration of the senior center.
  1. Request assistance from regular and EOC staff when needed.
  1. Provide supervision for volunteers, assigning duties, scheduling, and providing discipline when necessary.
OUTREACH:
  1. Network and connect to outside agencies that offer or provide services to seniors.
  2. Visit seniors who cannot participate in activities in the senior center.
SEASONAL:
  1. Assist with seasonal efforts, specifically the Christmas/Kettle efforts (i.e. driving, pickups/drop-offs, etc.).
  2. Coordinate a Kettle Kick Off for the senior center.
  3. Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
  1. Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook (email and calendar)
