Responsible for identifying and tracking all models within the organization, and plays an active role in the independent validation, implementation, and assessment the model risks, the appropriateness for the purpose used, and the general approach used for these models. The MRM will oversee, direct and facilitate the governance and validation of a variety of models employed in the bank including but not limited to credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, valuation, and stress testing models. The role spans multiple aspects of model validation and model risk governance across the Bank. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update and maintain the Model Risk Management framework, policies and procedures in line with FDIC FIL 22-2017 / OCC 2011-12 and SR 11-7.
  • Provide governance around model risk activities across the model life cycle
  • Supervise and lead the validation efforts of internal staff and external consultants with respect to models used for stress/forecasting models across the bank's portfolio.
  • Monitor, assess and report on adherence to model risk requirements outlined in the Model Risk Management policies and guidance.
  • Prepare and contribute to the preparation of key model risk reporting deliverables to senior management and the Bank's risk committee.
  • Employ technical expertise, analytic acumen and understanding of regulatory requirements to provide high quality deliverables and leadership in a fast-paced risk management environment
  • Build and sustain positive and collaborative working relationships with model stakeholders and provide appropriate oversight
  • Ensure sufficient model documentation to meet regulators, auditors, and other external party requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of risk analytics including credit grading, loss reserve, and stress testing.
  • Experience in either model validation and model development
  • Experience in developing policy and procedures.
  • Experience working with a variety of risk model types, including credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, valuation, and stress testing models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including presenting to senior management.
  • Strong organization skills with ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical skills both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Intellectual curiosity, superior problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, and prompt follow-through.
Industry and Work Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years in relevant financial services industry experience that includes loss forecasting/stress testing model development, maintenance, tracking and management.
  • Consulting background in the risk/model validation space a plus.
Academic:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as economics, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering required with an advanced degree preferred
  • Financial Risk Modeling certification preferred.
