For questions regarding this position, please contact: Under the direction of the Program Director for the Caring for Our Own Program (CO-OP), the CO-OP Student Success Specialist is responsible for guiding students from prospective status through enrollment at MSU and on to completion of nursing pre-requisite courses. The Students Success Specialist will develop, manage and implement key aspects of the CO-OP program related to case management for all four years of the program. The CO-OP Student Success Specialist will work to convey compassion and support alongside high expectations, and will have a working knowledge of both academic advising and case management principles to help students from a wide variety of backgrounds and geographies to successfully matriculate at MSU. This position interacts daily with the Campus Director, faculty, other MSU staff, students, and the public, therefore the person in this position must possess strong communication skills to respond to a variety of clientele tactfully and diplomatically both internal and external to the department. This person also must possess the ability to be an expert in the curriculum of the department and will always exhibit professionalism, maintaining their composure in complex or difficult situations. Recruitment Type: Open General Statement: The Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing (MRJCON) offers a baccalaureate in nursing, accelerated Baccalaureate in Nursing, Master of Nursing focused on clinical leadership, and Doctor of Nursing Practice with focus in nurse midwifery, family nurse practitioner or psych-mental health nurse practitioner. The College has five campus locations across the state, located in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Kalispell, and Missoula. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide academic mentoring, tutoring, and social support to both prospective and enrolled CO-OP students. Advise incoming CO-OP students regarding completing equivalent nursing prerequisites, utilizing an understanding of agreements with other institutions and their intersection with MSU policies. Use independent authority when determining if a CO-OP student should appeal a decision, file a grievance, or pursue retroactive withdrawal; guide students in completing scholastic appeals as well as navigating terms for continuing in nursing coursework upon successful appeal or behavioral contract. Help students understand and follow academic policies, rules, and requirements, and assist graduates with resumes, interview skills, and finding employment resources. Use case management principles; refer CO-OP students to academic and personal success resources within and outside of MSU such as counseling services, housing authorities, legal assistance, daycare providers, and the Dean of Students Office. Assist with the planning, coordination, and evaluation of student orientations, graduations, honoring ceremonies, and bridge courses. Communicate with students using distance delivery technologies (e.g., teleconference, audiovisual conferencing) bi-weekly, during campus visits, and on an ongoing basis about curricular progression, post-graduation internships, graduate school opportunities, and post-baccalaureate employment opportunities. Create and support appropriate case management models for each year of the four-year CO-OP Program. Work with the Learning Management team to ensure CO-OP students engage in student success resources; and ensure students attend class, engage in their coursework, and maintain satisfactory academic outcomes. Document and track progress towards the goals and outcomes of federal funders on retention metrics; internally report on these metrics. Assist with social and academic programming for first and second-year students. Conduct weekly academic check-ins for first and second-year students. Monitor attendance at mandatory tutoring sessions. Develop CO-OP use of MSU Nav for documentation of student progress. Engage in recruitment and outreach activities, including traveling to high schools and tribal colleges, attending Catapalooza, and managing social media presence. Complete training for MSU Web & Digital Communications to support best practices in social media. Complete training for Academic Advising through MSU Advising Services for cross-training purposes. Collect and document student input on the CO-OP program using focus groups and other methods. Document program expenses in Chrome River. Plan and facilitate a 4-week pre-entry immersion program each semester for transfer students. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Demonstrated experience in program development, management, implementation and delivery assessment. Demonstrated competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, cloud storage, database, presentation, email, and internet. Demonstrated experience communicating (oral and written) to constituents with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Experience working successfully in a team-oriented environment with a wide range of key constituents both internal and external to the organization. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills: Master’s degree in related field. Demonstrated experience with project management/case management/social work. Demonstrated experience utilizing knowledge of American Indian cultures, history and contemporary issues, particularly those tribes in Montana.
