California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) and California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) Communication Manager The Communication Manager is responsible for managing the communications team for the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative and the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative.The communications leader will work collaboratively with CMQCC and CPQCC leadership, partners and staff to develop and implement a communications strategy and plan to elevate awareness and understanding of clinical practice and birth equity opportunities and improvements among key audiences regionally and nationally. S/he will write and edit communications materials on behalf of the program, initiate social media posts, respond to media inquiries, ensure that the priorities, messaging and brand of the programs and Stanford are advanced. S/he will participate in the development and/or contribute to outreach strategies related to program development, birth equity, partnership and community engagement, and project funding; identify and implement communication tools and resources needed to support program projects, update and post new information to the CMQCC/CPQCC website and review trends to make communication program improvement recommendations. S/he will work closely with the Stanford Office of Communications and Public Affairs to ensure coordination and continuity of messaging. CMQCC and CPQCC are located at Stanford University in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine.

CPQCC’s mission is to improve the quality and equity of health care delivery for California’s most vulnerable infants and their families, from birth and NICU stay to early childhood.We work with our members to determine, implement and sustain best practices to improve outcomes and reduce disparities in care for families and infants, providing rapid cycle data, quality improvement tools, and strategies for clinicians to improve perinatal outcomes.

Since its inception, CMQCC's mission has been to end preventable morbidity, mortality, and racial disparities in California maternity care. Through many partnerships, CMQCC's quality improvement toolkits and collaboratives have been successful in lowering maternal mortality rates in California. Duties include: Supervises, supports and provides strategic direction to the communications team. Draft and implement a proactive communication plan to advance the CMQCC and CPQCC missions, equity goals and initiatives and program activities. Develop, execute and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, quality improvement toolkits, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts. Participate in regular meetings of administrative and program leaders, key researchers and staff to create strategic messages for media relations and overall strategies and tactics for facilitating effective external communications. Assist in preparing content for internal or external newsletters, annual reports and email announcements. Manage, update and oversee the content and posting of material on the CMQCC website. Understand email and digital content distribution. Identify individuals/community groups to attend and/or speak at public meetings or other events. Coordinate media, community or government relations, and ensure logistics and preparations are handled. Build key relationships with other communication leaders across the state to advance key messages and the mission. Provide public relations support for audiences that are both internal and external to the university. Plan and execute activities to support public relations objectives. Develop, execute and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners Participate in regular meetings of key researchers with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications. Identify and maintain professional relationships with key press, policy influencers and community leaders. Prepare content for internal or external newsletters. Understand email and digital content distribution. Assist in developing strategies for brand managements, reputation management and issues management of moderate complexity. Assist with the design and implementation of effective constituent communications programs and social media strategies. Serve as a project leader for public relations activities of small to moderate complexity. - Other duties may also be assigned Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is between $112,000 to $126,000 based on commensurate experience and background. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of seven (7) years of combined education and experience in health communications, journalism, or public relations with at least two years supervisory experience. Demonstrated knowledge of health equity and how it applies to strategic communications. Knowledge of electronic communication tools Experience with website content creation, posting and information architecture and design concepts. Ability to manage vendor evaluation and procurement process. Excellent writing and presentation skills, ability to edit scientific text and education materials to ensure clear and concise communication of concepts. Graphic layout and design skills. Project management experience and skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with leadership and staff on multiple, competing projects. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): ·

Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and advanced skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading. ·

Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus. ·

Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people. ·

Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
