Responsibilities The

Engineer I/II

position is responsible for a variety of project support related tasks. Duties may include conducting regular inspections of active land disturbing activities in accordance with the Construction General Permit (CGP) under the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP), assisting with or leading field data collection and surveys, erosion and sediment control planning, report writing and other office-related functions. The qualified applicant will have knowledge or experience in erosion and sediment control planning, compliance with state erosion and sediment control and stormwater management regulations, proficiency with CADD design for development of project plans, and familiarity with various software platforms for hydraulic analysis and stormwater routing. The position requires coordination with internal teams, project managers, and clients in both written and verbal formats. The position also requires field work and travel (approximately 25%) primarily, but not limited to, Virginia and North Carolina. Some overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences 2+ years experience in engineering or environmental consulting desired EIT certification is strongly desired. Tuition assistance for EIT prep courses provided. Intermediate knowledge in engineering and environmental science consulting practices as they relate to: erosion and sediment control planning, stormwater design, wetland and waters permitting, site plan development, traffic control planning, NPDES permitting and construction compliance Ability to lead field teams and manage and prioritize multiple tasks with limited oversight Virginia DEQ Certified Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Plan Reviewer or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire Experience in the preparation of project drawings for linear development or energy sector projects Knowledge and familiarity with utility operations under Annual Standards & Specifications (Virginia) Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permits for authorization from the US Army Corps of Engineers and state environmental agencies Excellent written and verbal communication skills Knowledge and familiarity of CADD and/or GIS Ability to work well in diverse groups of people and with minimal direct supervision Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote job site locations on a daily basis Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains (position requires field work)
