Job Overview and Responsibilities

The Technical Service Manager ensure effective operations of the plant's manufacturing process by: Managing the maintenance department, Provide processing engineering support to Operations Manager and Project engineer, and providing technical direction to the manufacturing department
* Complies with all Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental policies and procedures. Incorporates these requirements into applicable procedures and work instructions.
* Provide technical direction to the manufacturing department in collaboration with the operations manager.
* Monitor all aspects of the process by analyzing and interpreting process data.
* Identify, troubleshoot, propose solutions and solve process problems.
* Provide technical tools and training for manufacturing personnel to better interpret process data and identify, troubleshoot and correct process problems.
* Design DCS modifications and force-outs.
* Optimize the process by reducing variable and fixed costs and increasing plant production.
* Work with production, site personnel and outside vendors to identify process improvements, optimization projects, debottlenecking projects and cost-saving opportunities.
* Provide technical information and support to manufacturing and maintenance for capital project work. Perform capital cost estimates and manage approved projects.
* Improve process safety by training plant personnel and working on safety improvement projects.
* Work with accounting to complete the monthly fixed cost accounting and prepare the annual fixed cost budget.
* Maintains current knowledge and understanding of the policies and practices relating to the quality and food safety plans and performs work in accordance with these policies and practices.
* Manage the maintenance function at the facility.
* Responsibility for the asset maintenance process with the goal of preserving and maximizing the value of existing production assets and associated facilities through corrective, preventive, and predictive programs.
* Monitors maintenance results including equipment availability, work order backlog, and overall maintenance costs.
* Ensures performance of maintenance group through appropriate personnel, training, tools, and facilities.
* Responsible for SAP-PM data and appropriate use of the system.
* Implement maintenance excellence and or lean manufacturing concepts and KPIs to drive performance improvements.
* Manage the CAPEX budget for the site
* Collaborate with technical support group (DCT in Brussels) to share and to gather best practices between the multiple sodium bicarbonate plants worldwide.
* Troubleshooting and resolving process problems, DCS logic problems, DCS hardware problems, equipment and analyzer problems and laboratory instrument problems.
* Designing, prioritizing, and implementing manufacturing improvement studies.
Education and Experience

B.S. Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree

A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a processing plant; food process plant experience a plus. Working knowledge with production process, maintenance, process safety training, and related systems. Strong and effective oral and written communications and problem solving skills. Ability to organize, empower and motivate small working groups.

Skills

Responsible for technical support and maintenance for 150,000 ton per year sodium bicarbonate facility. Direct and indirect supervision of 2 Cadre, 5 hourly, and 1 contractor. Work force size can vary depending on work load for the maintenance department.
