Research Scientist - Advanced Computing Lab What We Do At the SEI AI Division, we conduct research in applied artificial intelligence and the engineering challenges related to the practical design and implementation of AI technologies and systems. We currently lead a community-wide movement to mature the discipline of AI Engineering for Defense and National Security. As our government customers adopt AI and machine learning to provide leap-ahead mission capabilities, we: Build real-world, mission-scale AI capabilities through solving practical engineering problems. Prepare our customers to be ready for the unique challenges of adopting, deploying, using, and maintaining AI capabilities. Position Summary: As a research scientist focusing on advanced computing, you will identify, shape, apply, conduct, and lead research that matches critical U.S. government needs. Requirements Research practices and publications: You have a track record of conducting research and applying scientific methods. You have a reputation for the highest level of integrity and have published research. Familiarity with emerging trends and opportunities: You are familiar with technical challenges and emerging trends in computing and information science. Deep technical knowledge: You have performed extensive work or research in high performance computing, distributed and scalable computing, or related fields. Technical leadership: You have led or participated in research projects and have experience collaborating across research teams. Proposals: You have contributed to successful research proposals to funding agencies. Knowledge of Department of Defense and Intelligence Community: You are familiar with DoD or Intelligence Community software systems acquisition practices. Duties Hands-on research: You will participate in or conduct novel research in advanced computing, advanced analytics, and applied machine learning. Solution development: You will work with interdisciplinary teams to turn research results into prototype operational capabilities. Build and demonstrate: You'll design and develop solutions that provide needed capabilities to the government. Test and evaluate: You'll conduct rapid prototyping to demonstrate and evaluate technologies in relevant environments. Collaborate: You'll actively participate on teams of developers, researchers, designers, and technical leads. Program: You'll have the chance to work with modern software languages such as Python and C/C++. Technical Experimentation: You'll experiment with emerging technologies and evaluate novel software stacks. Strategize: You will work with Center leaders and colleagues to plan and carry out an overall research strategy. Mentor: You'll contribute to improving the overall technical capabilities of the Center by mentoring others. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Communication and Collaboration: You have strong written and verbal communication skills. Dedication: You can meet deadlines while multi-tasking under pressure. Creativity and Innovation: You are creative and curious, inspired by collaboration with premier researchers. Knowledge and Learning: You possess broad technical experience and interest in computer science and applied technology. Other Requirements BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline with eight (8) years of experience; OR MS in the same fields with five (5) years of experience; OR PhD with two (2) years of experience. Flexible to travel to other SEI offices and sponsor sites on occasion. Moderate (25%) travel outside of your home location. You will be subject to a background investigation and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
