Basic Requirement for Accountant: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Must include at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement, provided that the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, and has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting.

Specialized Experience for GS-11:

One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) providing accounting, finance and reporting services and advice to negotiate solutions to issues related to managerial and operational accounting and finance work; 2) reviewing a variety of accounting and/or financial systems and documentation required to prepare, validate and analyze financial statements, records, and reports; 3) resolving non-complex financial problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-09 level. OR Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as business administration, finance, or public administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Financial Concepts, Policies, and Principles Financial Reporting Oral Communication

Time in Grade Requirement:

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
