Job Summary:

Develops, coordinates, and presents safety programs to prevent, reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses of Cherokee Nation daily operations. Performs statistical injury risk analysis on incidents to identify loss trends and hazards environments. Conducts site safety inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Federal Accessibility Standards. Designs and presents curriculums to meet the safety training needs of various Cherokee Nation Departments/Programs. Contributes to completion of MOA deliverables for Gaming Commission and insured Tribal entities. Provides a safety presence and technical assistance on construction projects fro CNB/CN in addition to our insured (Housing Authority, Home Health, CEC, Election Commission. Provides technical assistance to community organizations on insurance and safety tissues regarding insured community buildings. Provides awareness level safety information/activities at various tribal and local community events/festivals.

Job Duties:

Develops, coordinates, and presents safety programs emphasizing loss prevention and risk reduction techniques to prevent, correct or mitigate unsafe environmental working conditions. Develops and conducts safety training courses utilizing lecture and audio/visual aids to address the needs of the various programs and departments. Compiles and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents. Prepares statistical injury risk analysis to identify areas of frequency and severity, variables include age of worker, day of incident, type of injury, length of employment, etc. Provides recommendations and training programs to minimize causes of loss. Performs site safety inspections and prepares reports reflecting safety violations, recommendations, and abatement programs to correct hazards. Evaluates and reviews technical and scientific publications and participates in activities of related professional organizations, community meetings and other Nation activities. Maintains liaison relationship with outside organizations. Performs physical assessment of Cherokee Nation facilities including floor plan layout, dimensions, construction type, age, and occupancy, etc. in order to provide an evacuation plan for egress (exit) routes. Must possess and maintain knowledge of International Organization for Standard (ISO), OSHA, NFPA101, National Electrical Code (NEC), and Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) regulations. Maintains property schedule on Cherokee Nation buildings. Conducts construction site safety inspections to ensure General Contractors and Sub Contractors are following in accordance with OSHA 1926 Construction standards and prepares reports reflecting safety violations observed and recommendations to correct site hazards. Investigates and documents accidents, injuries, and near misses. Cooperates in the preparation of material, determines, cause of loss, identify/discover/uncover evidence for organization use in insurance investigations. Work in s close coordination with Claims Adjusters, both Work Comp and Property Casualty. Maintains Property Schedule/SOV - Statement of Values on all Cherokee Nation property, including owned and leased facilities. Maintains Property Guide. Attendance must comply and be maintained in compliance with unit operating policies. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Associate's degree from 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from 4-year college or university; or three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

An additional one (1) year experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database, Design, Human Resources Systems, Internet, Spreadsheet, and Word Processing software, and Order processing systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have the ability to interpret and apply safety related laws. Must have the ability to write technical reports.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIGs Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSAs List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIGs List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
