Job Overview:
The Safety Risk Management Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of safety initiatives aimed at preventing, reducing, or eliminating workplace injuries, illnesses, fatalities, and financial losses within the operations of Cherokee Nation. This role involves conducting statistical analyses of injury risks to identify loss patterns and hazardous conditions. The specialist will perform safety inspections of facilities to ensure adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Federal Accessibility Standards. Additionally, the role includes designing and delivering training programs tailored to the safety needs of various Cherokee Nation Departments and Programs. The specialist will also assist in fulfilling Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) obligations for the Gaming Commission and insured Tribal entities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety programs focused on loss prevention and risk mitigation strategies to address unsafe working conditions.
- Create and facilitate safety training sessions using lectures and multimedia resources to meet the diverse needs of various departments.
- Analyze and interpret statistical data related to occupational hazards and incidents.
- Prepare comprehensive injury risk assessments to pinpoint areas of frequent incidents and severity, considering factors such as worker age, incident day, injury type, and employment duration.
- Provide actionable recommendations and training to minimize loss causes.
- Conduct thorough safety inspections and generate reports highlighting safety violations, corrective recommendations, and abatement strategies.
- Engage with technical and scientific literature and participate in professional organizations and community events.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) of coursework from a four-year college or university; or three years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience: A minimum of one additional year of experience in a related field is required.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in database management, design, human resources systems, internet applications, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
Certificates and Licenses:
- A valid driver's license is required, with a driving history that meets Cherokee Nation underwriting standards.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to interpret and apply safety regulations effectively.
- Proficient in writing technical reports.
Additional Requirements:
- Must not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services or listed on any exclusion lists.
- Willingness to travel and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks; must be able to lift and move items up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to various weather conditions, potential hazards, and moderate noise levels is expected while performing job duties.
