Position Overview:

The Lead Clinical Laboratory Specialist is accountable for the comprehensive management of the designated laboratory section. This role involves executing a diverse range of laboratory analyses and responsibilities in accordance with established laboratory protocols, while adhering to Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines, and applicable regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

- Operate within the limits of professional expertise, grounded in verified education, training, and experience.
- Deliver health services that align with Cherokee Nation standards of quality and efficacy.
- Develop and document policies and procedures for the laboratory section, ensuring readiness for inspections and compliance with quality control measures.
- Proactively communicate with laboratory management regarding any operational challenges that exceed immediate resolution capabilities.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze laboratory specimens, ensuring their integrity and compliance with established protocols.
- Review and validate methodologies to confirm their accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Execute all tests following laboratory protocols, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of results.
- Analyze laboratory outcomes to verify result accuracy and reliability.
- Ensure that patient results are not disseminated until all corrective measures have been implemented and the testing systems are functioning correctly.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to established guidelines, keeping precise records of maintenance and quality control activities.
- Identify instrument malfunctions and take immediate corrective actions to restore proper functionality.
- Notify healthcare providers of any delays in test results.
- Manage inventory effectively, ensuring the laboratory operates efficiently while minimizing waste.
- Prepare reports that are timely, concise, and well-organized.

Compliance and Ethics:

- Adhere to all safety protocols, including hazardous communication and Blood Borne Pathogens standards.
- Uphold professional ethical standards and maintain confidentiality regarding patient information, unless legally required to disclose.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or graduation from an approved Medical Technology program.

Experience:
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Registered Medical Technologist.

Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in database management, internet applications, order processing systems, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Certifications:
- Must hold a valid Medical Technologist registration and maintain it throughout employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within the initial employment period.

Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
- Occasionally required to lift and move items up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment:
- Frequently exposed to moderate noise levels and occasional wet conditions.
- Regular exposure to mechanical parts and potential electrical hazards.
