Title: Senior Patient Care Coordinator Location: Upper East Side Org Unit: Brooklyn 186 Joralemon Support Work Days: Weekly Hours: 35.00 Exemption Status: Non-ExemptSalary Range: $25.34 - $30.88 *As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices Position SummaryUnder supervision, provides administrative and clinical care support for physicians, including taking patient vitals, performing phlebotomy and facilitating patient flow throughout the office visit. Also provides coverage for front desk check-in and check-out functions.Job ResponsibilitiesResponsible for taking patient vitals and blood pressure.Responsible for phlebotomy duties.Coordinates the collection of samples/specimens and submission to labs.Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms and sterilization of medical instruments.Ensures the proper set up of instruments and equipment prior to patient visit.Maintains medical-supply inventories and escalates supply requests.Checks dated materials and medications for expiration and discards expired items. Performs checks on refrigerators and other equipment on a daily basis.Registers patients within the practice management system. Completes full registration for new patients and eligibility verification for all appointments/procedures. Resolves registration issues prior to patient appointment to ensure smooth check-in.Confirms patient appointments.Coordinates and schedules laboratory and diagnostic tests. Communicates with patients regarding ancillary testing appointments.Oversees daily work flow of the clinical area and escalates issues.Assists with the training of new staff members in the practice's operations and systems.Provides back-up coverage for other staff members including secretarial support to physicians and practice administration.Receives, sorts and distributes mail.Verifies patient insurance eligibility and obtains necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date. Facilitates the communication and collection of any fees due from patient.Responsible for front-end revenue cycle processes, which may include but is not limited to, the check-in/check-out of patients and collection/reconciliation of time-of-service payments,as applicable. May also discuss patient's responsibility for paymentsInitiates and prepares written correspondence as needed and based on functional needs.Answers phones, responds to inquiries and triages calls to appropriate personnel.Accompanies the provider into the exam room, updates or collects patient history and inputs patient data into the practice management system. Explains procedure to be performed to patient prior to procedure and answers any questions throughout.Assists with minor surgical procedures and/or injection preparations.EducationHigh School DiplomaExperiencePrior experience in a patient-facing clinical setting and knowledge of medical terminology.Completion of a medical assistant training course that includes phlebotomy training is highly desired.Candidates with extensive medical assistant work experience, along with phlebotomy experience, may be considered.If required to draw blood, proper phlebotomy training is required prior to performing those duties.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPrevious experience using computerized appointment scheduling systems (EPIC preferred) and/or electronic Medical Record (eMR) system (ideally EPIC-Care).Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding.Working knowledge of third party payor reimbursement - Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial insurance.Licenses and CertificationsWorking Conditions/Physical DemandsStandard office work; May require from time to time to lift light to moderate amounts of weight (eg, boxes of medical/facility supplies)Weill Cornell Medicine is a comprehensive academic medical center that is committed to excellence in patient care, scientific discovery, and the education of future physicians and scientists in New York City and around the world.
