Job Description

As a part of the Ingram Center for Student-Athlete Success, the Director of Educational Enhancement is a member of the Student Services team and will report directly to the Assistant AD for Student Services. This position will be responsible for leading the implementation of the learning services and tutoring programs and will also support department programming by identifying student-athletes' academic skill sets as well as designing and implementing systems to assist student-athletes in obtaining desired academic outcomes.

About the Work Unit

Vanderbilt University's Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship, and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 17 varsity teams, 15 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervise full-time Educational Enhancement staff and/or student workers

2. Lead in the implementation of the Educational Enhancement program, which includes learning services and tutoring

3. Coordinate the recruitment, training, continued education, and evaluation of Educational Enhancement program staff

4. Review background information and current academic performance of referred student-athletes and determine if specialized assistance is needed

5. Conduct initial assessments and coordinate educational testing for learning disabilities of incoming student-athletes

6. Implement academic support plans for student-athletes who have learning challenges by collaborating with Student Services Coordinators to design and implement academic success plans for underprepared students

7. Determine the need for diagnostic evaluation/testing by reviewing standardized testing records, interviews, and personal observation of each assigned student-athlete

8. Work with individuals and groups of student-athletes to teach and develop successful academic skills in the areas of reading, writing, organization, time management, testing and learning strategies and other general study skill areas

9. Serve as the liaison with the University Counseling Center, Center for Student Well-Being, Student Access Services, and other campus departments offering learning support

10. Collect and report academic data as needed (e.g., SEC for Academic Honor Roll, Vice Chancellor/Athletics Director, Provost's Office, Board of Trust, etc.)

11. Monitor evening study halls as assigned

12. Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes in terms of upholding integrity, cooperation, self-reflection and stressing the importance and benefits of education

13. Work in a cooperative, team atmosphere to support student-athletes' needs

14. Comply with all NCAA and SEC rules and regulations

a. Work in conjunction with the department's compliance office to stay current on all rules and regulations to ensure we are operating with the highest level of integrity

15. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Student Services or Athletics Senior Management team

Qualifications

•A Master's Degree is necessary.

•Minimum 3 years of full-time experience with an academic unit in athletics is necessary.

•Experience developing, evaluating, and implementing a learning support program is preferred.

•Organized, detail oriented and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision is necessary.

•Knowledge of NCAA Division I and SEC rules and regulations is necessary.
