Summary:

The Training Specialist (Placement and Apprenticeship) is responsible for the effective implementation of on-the-job training, ensuring a smooth transition from the initial orientation session to placement at a program location(s). This includes working effectively with program leadership to identify and develop effective on-the-job trainers for each program. This position also oversees the Direct Support Professional Apprenticeship program, ensuring all Apprenticeship program systems and processes are followed, thoroughly documented, and reported into the appropriate data systems. This position will also aid with conducting initial and ongoing training with team members to ensure effective service delivery and adherence to the organization's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures, and state and federal regulations. This includes scheduling and conducting training classes, organizing and preparing orientation materials, and maintaining training records through the organization's learning management software.

General Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the effective implementation and documentation of on-the-job training
  • Oversee the Direct Support Professional Apprenticeship program
  • Identify and train on-the-job trainers for program locations and work with them to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires
  • Assess trainees' understanding of training content and progress, and make necessary adjustments to maximize trainee competence
  • Provide training necessary for the successful use of technologies, including but not limited to electronic documentation platforms and learning management software
  • Assist with tracking team member trainings and certifications through the learning management system to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
  • Complete and enter all required Apprenticeship program documentation, including entering data into the electronic database
  • Assist with and promote team member growth and career advancement, including identifying training and education resources for team members
  • Assist with the production of training aids, including training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works
  • Obtain and maintain all necessary certifications to conduct trainings
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's Degree or eight years equivalent experience (Master's preferred) in a related field
  • Minimum of five (5-10) years experience in the field of IDD
  • Experience implementing training programs that improve services
  • Ability to engage in abstract reasoning and problem solving
  • Ability to interpret data and develop reports and correspondence
  • Understanding of regulatory guidelines and all accreditation standards for: DMH, CARF, TCMs and others as needed
  • Current driver's license with acceptable driving record and access to reliable transportation to conduct visits to multiple sites plus attend community meetings
  • Ability to manage time effectively and maximize efficiency

Physical Expectations

This position requires extended periods of sitting with some periods of walking and standing. It may also require bending, kneeling, and/or stooping and climbing stairs. It may require light to heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds independently, and occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing stairs depending on the needs of the individual supported. The position will require occasional physical intervention if confronted by a person displaying combative or potentially dangerous behavior. An individual in this position may need to drive a vehicle to resources in the community. There may be extended periods of using a computer and/or calculator.
