Job Summary:The Canine Instructor will be responsible for overseeing the inmate-lead canine training program, ensuring the health and maintenance of each canine, and supervising participants in their daily training duties. The successful candidate will provide inmates with basic direction in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Correctional Education Association (CEA), Management & Training Corporation (MTC), Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC), and Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) directives.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee all daily training activities, ensuring compliance with established standards and protocols.
- Coordinate formal training with outside professional trainers, maintaining a high level of quality and effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate records of participation and community service hours, reporting to relevant authorities as required.
- Plan and implement activities that meet program objectives, ensuring the development of positive social skills among participants.
- Ensure the safe and humane treatment of canines, adhering to established protocols and procedures.
- Interact with community partners, promoting the development of positive relationships and partnerships.
- Perform other duties as assigned, within the scope of the role and in accordance with management's directives.
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with three years' experience in canine handling and training. A valid driver's license in the state of Florida, with an acceptable driving record, is also required. The successful candidate will be able to travel, transporting canines from the facility to training centers as needed.
